After two years, the Crawlin’ Crab Half Marathon Weekend welcomed 2,000 runners back to Hampton, Virginia

October 4, 2021

October 3, 2021 – HAMPTON, VIRGINIA –  Nearly 2,000 athletes were welcomed back to the streets of Hampton for the 10th Annual BayPort Foundation Crawlin’ Crab Race Weekend presented by Bon Secours In Motion. After hosting a virtual event in 2021 due to COVID-19, the excitement and energy of the participants, volunteers, and local community could be felt all weekend long.

“Each year we are blown away by the support we feel from the City of Hampton, but this year was different. Everyone was ready and eager to get out and move. Finishing a race is always a reason to celebrate but being able to safely bring the community together provided a new level of excitement,” said Jerry Frostick, co-owner of J&A Racing. “The energy that we witnessed all weekend is a testament to our participants and our local community, that have remained positive and dedicated to getting back to the start line.  We can’t wait to do it again next year!”

With ages ranging from 2-90 years old, this event offers a race distance for the whole family. The race attracts visitors from all seven local cities, the entire state of Virginia, and over 30 states from across the US.

Francois Suhr from Edison, New Jersey traveled with friends to Hampton for his first race.  “It was my first half marathon and it was so fun to run with everyone and to complete this race,” he said. “In fact, it was so much fun that I broke the PR Bell!”

Peter Ramundo of Suffolk, Virginia, won the BayPort Foundation Crawlin’ Crab Half Marathon with a finish time of 1:16:40. The winner of the half marathon on the women’s side was Bethany Spector of Virginia Beach, Virginia. She broke the tape in 1:21:44. On Saturday, Chris Free of Virginia Beach, Virginia, won the BayPort Foundation Crawlin’ Crab 5K with a finish time of 17:29 and Emily Honeycutt of Newport News, Virginia was the first place female, with a finish time of 19:26.

After crossing the finish line, participants were treated to a celebration at the Coliseum Central Post-Race Party located outside of the Hampton Coliseum.  The Post-Race Party included beers from Virginia breweries, pizza from Ynot Italian and live entertainment.

This event will return on October 1-2, 2022. Registration and introductory pricing is currently available at crawlincrabhalf.com
