2021 Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon Challenges Boston Area Companies To Compete for the Boston Corporate Cup

July 21, 2021

Registration Now Open for August 29th Event

BOSTON – July 21, 2021 – Greater Boston employers are gearing up for the 2021 Boston Corporate Cup competition. On August 29, 2021, local companies will vie for the title of triathlon champion at the 2021 Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon.

“After a year where many of us have been working at home, only connecting with colleagues virtually, the Boston Corporate Cup is a great way to reconnect, to bring people back together in a friendly competition,” said Michael O’Neil, president of the Boston Triathlon. “I think we are all looking forward to seeing Boston’s leading companies come together in person, employees working together for a common goal – winning the Boston Corporate Cup.”

Participants in the Boston Corporate Cup can compete in the Sprint distance event as an individual or as part of a company relay team, completing a 750M swim, a 17.5K bike and a 5K run.  Corporate teams also have the opportunity to raise funds for the charity of their choice, including the event’s charity partner, Boston Medical Center, the largest safety-net hospital and busiest provider of trauma and emergency services in New England. Registration is now open at BostonTri.com

Corporate teams must be mixed gender, with a minimum of one female participant on each team.  Entries will be ranked on a combination of performance and participation, with teams being scored by the top finishers in both the relay and the individual races, as well as the total number of participants a company enters in the race.  The winning team will hold the custom-designed trophy as well as bragging rights for the next year.  There will also be an award for the top fundraising team.

General Electric won the Boston Corporate Cup in 2019 and will be returning to defend their title in this year’s competition.  Columbia Threadneedle Investments, title sponsor of the Boston Triathlon, will also be fielding a team for the competition.

“We are proud of our continued sponsorship of this great event and plan to have a strong showing at this year’s race! Raising funds for BMC alongside other Greater Boston companies is what drives our competitive spirit,” said Leslie Walstrom, Global Head of Marketing at Columbia Threadneedle Investments.

The Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon will take place in South Boston on August 28-29, 2021.  As Boston’s only triathlon, this iconic event includes both Olympic and sprint distance races. The swim takes place at Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation’s (DCR) Carson Beach, a bike ride on DCR William Day Boulevard, and a beautiful run in South Boston. In addition to the main race on August 29, Kids Day will take place on Saturday, August 28, featuring a host of activities designed to inspire a future generation of triathletes.  Race and registration information is available at BostonTri.com.
