2,000 triathletes, 1 Giant Leap off the Ferry
As a ringing endorsement of its growing iconic status, the 2020 Escape the Cape Triathlon and Open Water Classic, Presented by Inspira Health, reached capacity in just 18 hours, selling out with 2,000 triathletes signing up for this “must-do” multisport experience. Athletes from 40 states, including 350 first time triathletes, will make the journey to Cape May, NJ and leap off the Cape May-Lewes Ferry June 14th, 2020. Voted the Best Triathlon in the Mid-Atlantic and North East Regions and one of the Top 5 Bucket List Races in the World, Escape the Cape continues to thrive and attract triathletes from around the USA to one of DelMoSports’ signature events. Thousands of spectators will line the race course, from the starting point at the Ferry to the finish line on the Terminal’s boardwalk.
From the incredible start, with the athletes leaping 12 feet from the MV Delaware ferry vessel into the Delaware Bay and swimming ashore, to the gorgeous bike course through vineyards and beautiful back roads, and on the run to the finish line, Escape the Cape is truly unlike any other multisport event. A USA Triathlon sanctioned event, Escape the Cape offers two race distances: The Sprint Triathlon: .35-mile swim, 12.5-mile bike, and 5k run; and the Olympic Triathlon: 1-mile swim, 25-mile bike, and 5-mile run.
Launched in 2018, The Escape the Cape Open Water Classic has now become an “in-demand” open water swim competition in the Mid-Atlantic,providing swimmers the same thrill of jumping off the Cape May-Lewes Ferry to start their race. The Open Water Classic is a 3-mile, point to point, open water swim in the flat waters of Delaware Bay.
Other activities during Escape the Cape Weekend include a vibrant Health &Wellness Expo with 30+ exhibitors and a free kids run and kid’s triathlon on Saturday June 12th, both taking place at the Cape May-Lewes Ferry Terminal. New in 2020, the Escape the Cape will feature a Friday Night 5k for all guests flying in for the weekend!
“I am humbled by the amazing response and commitment people are making so far in advance for Escape the Cape” said Stephen Del Monte, Founder and CEO of DelMoSports. Our team works so hard all year long to put on world class events along the Jersey Shore, so this is a testament to them. And to have 350 newbies willing to challenge themselves to jump off the ferry as their first event- wow!”
