2017 New York City Triathlon Registration Drawing Opens on November 1

Athletes will Swim, Bike and Run through Manhattan in New York City’s only International Distance Triathlon on Sunday, July 16, 2017

NEW YORK (Nov. 1, 2016) —Entry to the 17th annual New York City Triathlon will once again take place via a Registration Drawing, which is set to open on Tuesday, November 1 and close on Tuesday, November 15.  Competitors will be notified if they were accepted through the random drawing on November 18, 2016. Produced by Life TimeSM – The Healthy Way of Life Company, the 2017 race will take place on Sunday, July 16, 2017.

The New York City Triathlon, part of the 2017 Life Time Tri Series which includes signature events like the Transamerica Chicago Triathlon and the South Beach Triathlon in Miami, is the only International distance triathlon in New York City. The race, expected to draw 4,000 participants, will include Pros, ParaTriathletes (physically challenged) and Age Group athletes from around the world. Participants will swim 1.5 kilometers (.93 miles) in the Hudson River, bike 40 kilometers (24.85 miles) on the Henry Hudson Parkway, and run 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) in Central Park.

In its inaugural year only 683 people signed up for the NYC Triathlon; by 2009, the triathlon was selling out in minutes; in November of 2010, due to its immense popularity as the most in-demand triathlon in America, the race began utilizing a random drawing system for applicants.  For those looking to bypass the Registration Drawing, limited VIP Champions Club entries are available. Athletes can also choose to enter the race by fundraising for one of 45 official charity partners. Once the Registration Drawing has been conducted, these are the only ways of entering the event.

The New York City Triathlon race weekend will include the beloved NYC Tri Diaper Derby, where future triathletes will crawl to victory during “the slowest two minutes in sports”, and the Gildan Underwear Run when 500 athletes – wearing nothing but their undergarments – will run 1.7-miles through Central Park. For the fifth consecutive year, the Challenged Athletes International Championship will also be held during the New York City Triathlon. This race format allows all five Paratriathlon classes to compete against one another, providing a larger field of competition.
