Event is One of the Fastest-Growing Holiday Run/Walks and Benefits Local Animal Rescues
(CARMEL, Ind.) – On Saturday, December 22, runners, walkers and dogs from around the Midwest will once again welcome the holidays with the Donut 5K, a race that has grown in popularity in the past 12 years. Now one of the three largest road races in Carmel, the Donut 5K, hosted by CRRG Events, Inc. (CRRG) is one of the few races that allows and encourages dogs to participate with their owners and directly benefits local animal rescue organizations. Once again, the event will start and finish at the Carmel Racquet Club, located at 225 East Carmel Drive, and offer all post-race celebrations, including the awards ceremonies, indoors spread out over six tennis courts. Because of the talent it attracts, the Donut 5K has again been awarded the State Championship race designation by the Road Runners Club of America (RCCA).
Jacks’ Donuts, the presenting sponsor of the event, will hand out more than 8,000 donut holes before, during and after the race, making this run fun for the whole family. In fact, the Donut 5K has the largest percentage of family participation than any other CRRG race. All finishers will receive the official Jack Donut’s medal and the much sought-after “Donut Me Stocking Hat.” The race starts at 9 a.m.
As is the tradition of the Donut 5K, the race benefits animal-related charities. This year’s event benefits four separate organizations: Helping Paws, Forever Friends Great Dane Rescue, Waldo’s Muttley Crew and Casa del Toro Pit Bull Rescue. Participants are encouraged to bring a donation such as pet food, blankets or pet toys and those who donate will receive a special gift on race day. To further support the charities, race organizers are holding a silent auction before and after the race with all proceeds donated back to the four organizations.
In addition to the cash purse, age group awards and the RRCA State Championship awards, the event presents four special awards to our four-legged friends in the race, including the fastest four-legged finish, the largest competitor, the smallest competitor and the best costume.
“The Donut 5K is one of our favorite days of the year because of the community involvement, family participation and, of course, the dogs and donuts,” said Race Director Todd Oliver. “Our partners at the Carmel Racquet Club and Jack’s Donuts always help us put on a great party after the race and we love being able to support multiple pet charities. There’s no better way to celebrate the holidays than with a good run that does good for others.”
