Arlington, VA March 19th, 2015 – US Military Endurance Sports (USMES) is proud to announce selection of four athletes to the inaugural Elite Para-Cycling Team. “Selection to the team was incredibly competitive; we received 16 applications in the programs first year, a real testament to the great opportunity here” said USMES Elite Director George Ganoung. The team is focused on providing mentorship/coaching, logistics, and financial support to Active Duty and Veteran US Military athletes with sights on national and international competition.
The following individuals have been named to the 2015 team:
- Justin Widhalm of Colorado Springs, Colorado. SFC US Army (Ret)
- Jason Kimball of Charlotte , North Carolina. SSG US Army (Ret)
- Will Reynolds of Bethesda, Maryland. CPT US Army (Ret)
- Steven Peace of San Diego, California. LCDR US Navy (Ret)
“I am extremely proud to see our first Elite Para Cycling Team compete this season. These athletes have overcome incredible adversity just to ride at all. They are true ambassadors for Veterans in endurance sports and are proof that a disability does not mean inability,” said USAFR Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Bill Jacobus, Executive Director, USMES.
The USMES Elite Para Cycling Team is an extension of the larger USMES Adaptive athlete program, offering wounded veterans and para athletes guidance and support through coaching camps, clinics, and competition.
