Pacific Sports’ Long Beach Triathlon Announces New Official Charity: Children Today

Long Beach, CA –  Pacific Sports announces a new partnership with Children Today as the Official Charity of the Long Beach Triathlon.

Children Today specializes in providing high-quality, trauma-informed child development, preschool, and support services that address the unique needs of children who are homeless or victims of maltreatment in Long Beach.  Their highly trained teaching staff ensures that the infants, toddlers, and preschoolers they serve are cared for in a nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment, mitigating the impact of their trauma, and positively impacting their social/emotional development as well as their ability to learn effectively.

“We are proud to be the official charity of the Long Beach Triathlon and to partner with Pacific Sports to put on what will undoubtedly be a great event,” said Children Today co-founder, Theresa Bixby.  “We’ll be sharing more details about this partnership in days to come, and we look forward to engaging with the Greater Long Beach community in such a fun and positive way.”

Pacific Sports Founder & CEO Jack Caress, shared in the excitement of this new partnership, “We are honored to announce Children Today as our Official Charity for the Long Beach Triathlon.  The role that Children Today plays in the Long Beach community was important to us and being able to assist in fund raising for such important programs ties in perfectly to the values we share at Pacific Sports and those who participate in an active lifestyle through our events.”

Pacific Sports has long history of cause relationships and with charitable organizations.  They currently include United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Cleveland, the Foundation for Letters in Brooklyn, Heath HighSteppers in Dallas, and UC Irvine Crew program in Newport Beach.   In addition, Pacific Sports supports the Los Angeles Sports Council and the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games. Pacific Sports events have generated over $7 million dollars for charities and worthwhile causes during its history.

Children Today was founded in 1997 by two working mothers in Long Beach, California, after one of them saw a toddler wandering alone down a busy street, wearing only a diaper, his parents nowhere to be seen.  It was this haunting image of homelessness – as well as its often overlooked impact on children – that inspired the creation of Children Today.

Beyond what one might find in quality, mainstream child development facilities, Children Today is distinguished by an added level of advocacy and support.  They collaborate with a comprehensive network of partners within the fields of homeless services, mental health, and social services, to ensure that families get the resources they need to obtain housing, financial, and family stability.

For twenty years, Children Today has been an advocate for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.  Since their inception, the combined impact of their programs has reached thousands of children and their families in Long Beach.
