1st Year of Audio Tour a Success, Now Complimented By Road To Race Day Virtual Training Event

Denver, Colorado – June 24, 2016 – Motigo, the social app that engages today’s connected athletes to provide moments of inspiration and empowerment, is back for the 2016 Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) thanks to incredibly strong engagement during last year’s event. With more than 23,000 personalized and audio-tour messages heard during the pilot program in 2015, the partnership is extending into its second year; allowing this year’s participants to experience inspiring personalized and course- specific messages during the emotional and historic event. And new for 2016, the MCM will use Motigo’s Road-to-Race Day virtual training run capabilities to provide a powerful way to support and motivate runners in their quest to get to the MCM start line.

During the 2015 event, the MCM carefully curated audio tour messages that added elements of entertainment and emotion to Marathon day, such as surprising runners with words of encouragement from country music superstar Tim McGraw; by having fun with sponsor Clif Bar who reminded runners to grab an energy gel and by sharing an inspiring message from the wife of a fallen Marine on the wear blue Mile of the Marathon course.

For the 41st MCM this October, runners will again be able to experience the on-course audio tour with roughly 10 event-themed messages scattered throughout their journey. Runners can also hear personalized messages from friends, family and donors while using their favorite music app or fitness apps along with Motigo.

With the goal of expanding beyond MCM Weekend and being part of the participants training journey, the MCM and Motigo have added a free virtual run experience this fall to get runners engaged and excited in their quest to achieve personal goals. The additional MCM content will help mentally support runners during the last few weeks of their long training runs leading to Marathon day, and fuel them with interesting, motivating and fun event-related content no matter where they are logging those training runs – around the country or around the world!

The creative use and continued adoption of technology by one of the largest marathons in the United States is a perfect example of embracing the needs and expectations of today’s runner and athlete.

Runners participating in the 41st MCM can download Motigo in the Apple App Store now, and in the Google Play store in the upcoming weeks. From there, they can select the event and it’s audio tour, plus invite their friends and loved ones to cheer them on – by using the apps, or with the record cheer option on the Motigo website.
