“Run with Meb” and Q&A on Wednesday, April 11 at Sports Basement Campbell to kick off Silicon Valley Half Marathon festivities; virtual opportunities for participants and fans alike all week long; free food truck festival welcomes all on April 14 & 15 in downtown San Jose
SAN JOSE – Four-time Olympian, Olympic silver medalist, Boston and New York City Marathon champion, Meb Keflezighi, is set to kick off his newest venture as a founding investor in the Silicon Valley Half, 10K and Food Truck 5K™ on April 14 & 15. Along with local event organizers Represent Running, Meb will participate in a variety of community engagement opportunities on Wednesday and Thursday April 11-12. The inaugural Silicon Valley Half benefits the Silicon Valley Education Foundation (SVEF).
Activities begin with the “Run with Meb” presented by UCAN, a free community event. Taking place on Wednesday, April 11 at Sports Basement Campbell from 5:30pm to 8:00pm the event also includes a post-run Q&A with Meb. The interview will be available to stream on the event’s Facebook page @svhalf and viewers are also encouraged to ask questions via Twitter @reprunning.
“This is a chance for me to connect with the Silicon Valley community and share in the inaugural Silicon Valley Half race week excitement,” Meb said. “The event will be inspirational, raise money for local education, and it is exciting to be part of launching this signature Silicon Valley sporting event.”
The running legend will also connect with Silicon Valley Half participants through their new partnership with the Motigo app. Motigo enables runners to receive motivational messages from friends, family and Meb as well where he will be offering unique tips and inspiration at different stages of each race.
“Motigo believes in the power of motivation,” said Motigo Founder Dan Nagler. “There is nothing more powerful than hearing the words of a champion like Meb during your race.”
Meb will be in Boston during the Silicon Valley Half weekend. Runners from all over the country and around the world are encouraged to join the Silicon Valley running community virtually. All participants are encouraged to share their training and weekend runs to the Represent Running Club page on Strava.
Race Founder and the Executive Director of Represent Running, J.T. Service shared his excitement for Meb’s partnership with the Silicon Valley Half. “Meb will be on two coasts on event week, where he will be helping launch Silicon Valley’s newest sporting event as well as supporting one of the most iconic events in the world in Boston where he was the 2014 marathon champion. We are humbled and honored by his commitment to Silicon Valley and our event.”
Weekend event festivities begin with the Silicon Valley Food Truck 5K on Saturday, April 14 where a local food truck will uniquely serve as the lead vehicle. Participants and the entire Silicon Valley community are then welcome to the Food Truck Festival on Saturday at Arena Green East in Downtown San Jose featuring live music, local breweries in the beer garden and Barefoot Wines.
On Sunday, April 15, the debut Silicon Valley Half Marathon and 10K starts at San Jose’s City Hall and the party will continue at the Festival into the early afternoon. More information on the event, including registration is available at svhalfmarathon.com.
