It’s just a month away in Austin, Texas, so grab your cowboy boots and your running shoes and we’ll see you in the Live Music Capital of the World Feb. 11-13
AUSTIN, Texas – It’s the 15th anniversary of Running USA’s annual conference this year, and we’re so excited to be gathering in one of America’s favorite cities – not just for running, but for live music, entrepreneurship, great food, eclectic art and history.
That’s right, we’re going to Austin, Texas, named the No. 1 place to live in the U.S. last year by U.S. News and World Report. The fastest growing city in America, Austin is not just home to South by Southwest and Austin City Limits, two very famous live music events, but a hotbed of industry. In fact, its reputation as a great running city might be one of its best kept secrets.
So without further ado, here are just a few of the reasons you’ll want to join us next month to learn, network and party with more than 700 of the running industry’s movers and shakers.
No. 5 – The running. Wait, the running is no. 5!? We just have so much great programming planned for this year that yes, the morning runs take the last spot on our list. Join us Monday and Tuesday at 6:30 am for a 3-mile excursion with fellow conference attendees. Ever wanted to run with some of the industry’s most esteemed race directors in a casual, fun environment? This is your chance. The crew from DMSE Sports will plan a great route from the host hotel, the Hilton Austin, and participants can pick up fun shirts from Leslie Jordan and custom medals from Ashworth Awards. Start the day off on the right foot!
No. 4 – Networking, networking, and more networking. After the popularity of last year’s networking lunch in Orlando, we’re bringing back the concept for both days. You’ll be seated at a random table each day and have the chance to meet new industry peers that you might never connect with otherwise. The evening receptions are a fantastic networking opportunity, and on Sunday night a special Women’s Networking Reception will be held. Whether you’re an industry veteran or brand new to the business, Running USA is the place to make new contacts.
No. 3 – Sponsorship panel. A panel of experts will discuss how to best attract and retain sponsors, no matter what your market size. “Sponsorship is an issue that’s constantly on our attendees’ minds,” said Christine Bowen, Vice President, Programming and Operations for Running USA. “We endeavor to bring fresh perspectives to the table to take on the sponsorship challenge each year, and that’s what you’ll find on this year’s panel.” Read the panel PR for more details.
No. 2 – Afdhel Aziz brings insight to the millennial mindset. Millennials and their habits and priorities are changing the running business as we know it. Renowned marketer Afdhel Aziz, author of ‘Good is the New Cool: Market Like You Give a Damn,’ will provide insight into how consumer decision-making is shifting, with factors like giving back to the community becoming more important than ever before. You won’t want to miss Aziz’ Monday morning keynote presentation.
No. 1 – Two words: Runner Retention. The No. 1 hot button issue for the industry in 2018. Runner retention is at the heart of the slowdown in event participation and a topic that affects anyone with a vested interest in the running business. The results of our much-anticipated Runner Retention Survey will be released for the first time and a panel discussion, moderated by Mary Wittenberg, will take on this hot topic on Monday afternoon.
P.S. AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT YOUR HOTEL STAY: Our room block at the Hilton Austin closes on Jan. 18. Make your reservation today to make sure you have a place to stay at the conference venue.
