August 27, 2020

P3R and the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh work together to open 2020 YMCA Turkey Trot registration on September 1, 2020 as a virtual event for the first time ever

PITTSBURGH, PA (August 27, 2020) – P3R and the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh announced their partnership for this year’s YMCA Turkey Trot presented by UPMC Health Plan. The two organizations are bringing their expertise together to deliver the best Turkey Trot for not only families in Pittsburgh, but also across the country with this year’s virtual event.

“The Turkey Trot has been a hallmark YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh event since 1991,” Kevin Bolding, President and CEO of YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh, said. “As we prepare for our 30th annual run/walk this year, I look forward to our organization working with P3R to make it the best virtual event for families. As we move forward, I am confident P3R’s extensive experience and expertise will help the Y continue to make the Turkey Trot a premier Thanksgiving Day experience and help expand our impact of providing support to fight food insecurity in our region.”

“We are pleased as an organization to partner with the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh and bring our expertise to this year’s event,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “The Turkey Trot is a family tradition for many around the country, and we are excited to help make the virtual event this year something special for families to celebrate.”

Registration will open on September 1, 2020 for this year’s virtual event, offering the traditional distances of the event; 5K, 1 mile and 5-mile options. There is a distance for runners of all ages and abilities, making this year’s event a true opportunity to celebrate as a family.

The event is a fun and exciting family tradition that helps support the effort to provide food security to children, families, individuals and seniors in Pittsburgh. The race benefits YMCA food pantry programs and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

“As your local health insurer, UPMC Health Plan is proud to sponsor this event that is so beneficial to the Pittsburgh community,” says Dr. Ellen Beckjord, Associate Vice President of Population Health and Clinical Transformation at UPMC Health Plan.  “We share the commitment of the YMCA to address the troubling prevalence of food insecurity and its contribution to health inequity. We are committed to finding solutions to meet the needs of our community, and we are happy to be a part of such a wonderful event to further that commitment.”
