Making the community stronger in every way!

Vancouver, WA /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – WHY Community, with a mission to improve the physical fitness and mental health of at-risk groups, provided 1647 individuals with the opportunity to train for and participate in local runs/walks and triathlons in 2022. Sherri McMillan, the founder of Why Community explains “the individuals we serve including kids, veterans, breast cancer survivors and so many others need to focus on their health and fitness, now more than ever. We love getting kids off their electronic devices and showing them that exercise and healthy living can be fun! We love helping veterans who are struggling with PTSD or Breast Cancer survivors trying to regain their physical strength. Finishing a challenging race positively impacts your entire life physically, mentally and emotionally and we are so honored to be able to offer this opportunity to so many in our community. We experience so much joy knowing these individuals cross the finish line who may not have done so otherwise.”

Through these complimentary race entries and peer-to-peer fundraising, Why Community was able to raise $135,682.51 for various local non-profits including Pink Lemonade Project, Police Activities League, Share, Foundation for Vancouver Schools, Our City Cares, Team in Training, and many more. McMillan explains “many local non-profits now rely on our peer-to-peer fundraising opportunities to raise funds for their important causes. Our mission not only benefits the individuals we directly serve, but in addition, provides a wonderful fundraising opportunity for many other local non-profits. Our program benefits the community in so many ways and makes us stronger!”

Since Why Community launched its programs in 2018, 9667 at-risk individuals have benefited physically and mentally from complimentary race entries and $2,196,872 has been raised for various non-profits.

“The fact that nearly 10,000 individuals are more healthy and fit and we’ve raised over $2 million through our efforts and the events we partner with is about as rewarding as it gets” says McMillan.
