Ultraman World Champion Dede Griesbauer Joins Team UCAN
January 28, 2021
Chasing big goals fueled by one-of-a-kind energy source
The Ultraman World Record holder, Dede Griesbauer, has officially joined Team UCAN. Dede, at age 49, broke the world record at Ultraman Florida 2020 by over an hour with a time of 22 hours 48 minutes and 31 seconds and won the women’s race by nearly 4 hours. Dede had been holding onto the overall lead for over 300 miles and stunned the world by taking 2nd overall in a competitive field of both men and women. The old adage “age is just a number” could not ring truer than in the case of Dede Griesbauer, who is also the oldest female pro racing IRONMAN.
“I’m so excited to be a part of the UCAN team,” says Dede. “Despite having a record-setting weekend at Ultraman, I had disastrous nutrition problems. It forced me to take a hard look at what I was doing, and explore other approaches. Since switching to UCAN early last year, my energy and GI issues are gone, and I’m really excited to take it into IRONMAN and the Ultraman World Championship this year.”
Based on Dede’s success at Ultraman Florida 2020 and with UCAN on her side, she is a strong candidate to take the win and break the course record at the Ultraman World Championship in 2021.
UCAN was originally created with a different purpose other than sports nutrition – to provide energy for a child with a rare condition that prohibits the body from producing its own blood sugar, resulting in frequent and dangerous episodes of hypoglycemia. Out of this need came SuperStarch®, a patented, slow-releasing carbohydrate that delivers steady, long-lasting energy without spiking and crashing blood sugar levels.
After conducting clinical trials on athletes, who also need to work to manage their glucose levels, UCAN launched nutrition products powered by SuperStarch in 2012. Top athletes like 2nd fastest ever American marathoner Sara Hall, 4x Olympian Meb Keflezighi and pro triathlete Tim O’Donnell fuel with UCAN and have achieved world-class performances using it in their training, racing and daily lives.
“Dede embodies the intersection between performance and health, and is the perfect representation of the UCAN brand,” says Shoba Murali, CEO of UCAN. “Her longevity at the top of the sport is remarkable and we are proud to bring Dede into the UCAN Family.”
