Achilles International Guides Help Blind Runner Terri Rupp Run 150 Miles

HENDERSON, NEVADA – February 22, 2022 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Lady Luck shined down on the sold-out filed of 400 runners who hit their own personal jackpots at the 9th Annual Jackpot Ultra Running Festival held this past weekend at the City of Henderson’s picturesque Cornerstone Park. In the marque USA Track & Field 100-Mile Championship race, Camille Herron won the race outright and set a new women’s World record with a time of 12:41. In the 72-hour race, the longest of 8 Jackpot races, Viktoria Brown ran 288 miles, also winning the race outright and setting a new World record. Stephanie Rubeli, co-founder of Beyond Limits Running and co-Race Director of Jackpot stated, “The performances turned in by Camille and Viktoria were remarkable as they even bested the top male elite runners.”

Elvis and the Premier Showgirls helped kick-off the USA Track & Field race Friday morning under near perfect weather conditions. Joining Camille on the women’s podium were 2nd and 3rd place finishers, Nicole Monette and Stefanie Flippin, respectively. Arlen Glick, who has won all but one of his eleven 100-mile races, took 1st in the men’s field with a time of 13:10, while Alex Nichols and Mark Hammond took 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

In other notable performances, blind runner Terri Rupp, in her third Jackpot Ultra appearance, ran a personal best 150 miles in the 72-hour race with strong support from several Achilles International running guides from both the local chapter and beyond. 73-year-old Roy Pirrung added to his storied running career by earning his 98th national championship title by winning his age group in the USATF race. “We created our Jackpot Ultra Running Festival to be an inclusive stage where runners of all abilities run and get to know each other in a short-loop race format. Watching Terri hit 150 miles and Roy earn another title, while simultaneously watching Camille and Viktoria set records at the same time, is what Jackpot is all about.”

To help officially establish and grow the local Southern Nevada chapter of Achilles International, Beyond Limits Running, the owner and producer of the Jackpot Ultra Running Festival,  presented local blind runner Pedro Nevarro and local chapter director Christy Gadoury, with a $20,000 donation pledge.
