Toronto Women’s Run Series launches new event to keep women active and fit

Toronto, Canada (September 17, 2020) – Toronto Women’s Run Series today kicked off a brand new exciting virtual Challenge geared to keep women running, walking and actively pursuing their goals, even if regular race events remain in limbo for now.

The 416 Run Challenge (416runchallenge.ca) is a first of its kind virtual running/walking event that encourages women to complete a 416 kilometre journey through the neighbourhoods of Toronto, across the GTA, or in fact, anywhere that they might live and run.

From now until July 31, 2021, participants will log their mileage and be rewarded with exclusive Challenge bling as they reach specific milestones along their distance journey.

Whether running or walking, indoors on a treadmill or outdoors along a trail or roadway, the event  is designed to continue to knit together the community of runners and walkers who are looking for personal challenges as well as ways to stay connected to the women’s running community despite the changes to live in-person race events that are currently enacted.

The event has also partnered with three designated charitable organizations – Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO), Second Harvest and Sistering – and are encouraging participants to raise funds to support their important work.

“The purpose of launching the 416 Run Challenge is to keep women active and fit over the next few months as we head into the autumn and winter season and continue to promote the collective power of our running community. With a tangible goal of 416 kilometres, broken down into attainable sections, and rewarded with some amazing bling and merchandise from our sponsors, I’m confident this Challenge will bring some fun and some motivation to our participants, “ says Cory Freedman, Founder and Director of the Toronto Women’s Run Series.

Unique Rewards for a Unique event

Once someone registers they will receive a welcome kit jam-packed with really cool sponsor offerings, many of whom are Toronto based and women owned and operated small businesses. There’s also a unique four-piece Finisher Necklace that includes milestone charms that are collected as runners complete each leg of the Challenge event.   Because this is a virtual event, all materials are delivered directly to each runner, arriving on their doorstep as each phase of the event is completed.

“We are so excited to bring the community something new and fun to do, especially as we continue to navigate through these pandemic times.  We hope runners will post photos of their journey on Facebook, tag us on Instagram and use the hashtag #TW416RC. After all, we’re all in this together, so let’s remember what it’s like to run together…  apart,” says Freedman.

About  Toronto Women’s Run Series

The 416 Run Challenge is presented by the Toronto Women’s Run Series, one of the most popular women’s race series in the country. The Toronto Women’s Run Series has been delivering top quality events for women runners across the country since 2009.

Our mission is to offer races that motivate and inspire women to come together and set the pace. For many women, our races are an opportunity to run in a supportive and friendly environment, and to meet other women runners. For competitive female runners, we offer the chance to break out of the chase group and experience the rush of being first across the finish line, instead of being the first woman across the finish line.

It is the collective power of our community that makes the Toronto Women’s Run Series so unique and memorable.

The race series takes place in one of Toronto’s most popular parks and runs through the park system in the heart of Toronto. We are Toronto based and committed to supporting other women owned and operated small businesses.

The Directive Collective designed the concept and brand identity for Toronto Women’s 416 Run Challenge. Richard Kuchinsky, Principal and Owner, is an avid runner and is very active within the Toronto running community. He is the architect of many memorable race brands including the 20th anniversary of the Scotiabank Waterfront marathon. For more information,  www.directivecollective.com
