The IRONMAN Group names Geoff Meyer Managing Director for Oceania

July 8, 2021

TAMPA, Fla. (July 14, 2021) – The IRONMAN Group is pleased to announce that Geoff Meyer has been named the company’s new Managing Director for Oceania. Meyer brings to the position a significant wealth of experience and knowledge through his almost 20 years in the mass participation sports industry working in every facet from operations, race directing, marketing, finance, and sponsorships.

Meyer is a familiar face for the region, having served as Managing Director from 2012-2016, before taking on assignment to lead The IRONMAN Group in the Asia Region. In the new role, he will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Oceania business unit for The IRONMAN Group, leading the four Oceania offices (Melbourne, Sydney and Noosa in Australia and Auckland in New Zealand) and the more than 65 full-time employees. The Oceania region is among the most eclectic in The IRONMAN Group featuring 24 events across multiple sporting disciplines and brands. Meyer and his team will be responsible for the performance of running, mountain biking, trail running, and triathlon events as well as the IRONMAN®, IRONMAN®70.3®, Epic Series and UTMB® brands in the region.

“We are fortunate to have Geoff move seamlessly into a region he has a great deal of knowledge of and a history of successful leadership in,” said Andrew Messick, President & Chief Executive Officer for The IRONMAN Group. “Geoff has been critical to the growth and development of the Asia-Pacific region for the company since 2012, and we know he will continue the great work that the team in Oceania has done while he focused on developing the Asia region for the past five years.”

Oceania continues to be a vital part of the overall IRONMAN Group business, playing host in 2022 to both the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Taupō, New Zealand and the World Triathlon Multisport World Championship in Townsville, Australia. The region also features some of the oldest and most prestigious endurance events in the world including The Sun-Herald City2Surf road running event in Sydney and the Noosa Triathlon.

Meyer joined The IRONMAN Group in 2012 with the acquisition of USM Events. After five years as Managing Director of the Asia-Pacific Region, Meyer relocated to Singapore to create a standalone Asian Division for The IRONMAN Group. During his time in Asia, Meyer helped to build a full business unit with operations, sales, marketing, and finance functions, among other areas, and facilitated major acquisitions that included the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon, and Sunrise Philippines, as well as expansion of the IRONMAN brand into India.

Meyer began his professional career in financial services before transitioning to the event space with USM Events in 2003.
