Strava and Runna record 850,000+ 5Ks worldwide for Global Running Day

June 9, 2026

Strava and Runna set a new global record on June 3, 2026, with 850,000 athletes completing 5Ks during their 24-hour “Global Running Day 5K with Runna” challenge. The massive participation totaled 4,023,350 kilometers—equivalent to 100 laps around the Earth—and marked the biggest Global Running Day ever recorded on Strava.

The challenge was designed for inclusivity rather than competitive racing, allowing participants to either run or walk the 5K distance at any pace. Any logged activity counted toward the global total, including GPS tracking, virtual logs, and manual entries across all local time zones, making it an accessible milestone for new runners. The fastest 5K recorded during the event was 12 minutes 56 seconds.

Participants who completed the 5K received a co-branded digital Strava x Runna badge for their profile and unlocked a promotional offer for two weeks of free Runna Premium access (restricted to new customers). Runna, acquired by Strava in April 2025, is an AI-powered personalized training app that adapts workout plans based on logged performance. If all 850,000 athletes lined up end-to-end, they would stretch from London to Paris. Endurance Biz
