February 21, 2020

Oakland, CA (February 21, 2020) —Corrigan Sports Enterprises announced that Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation will host a Kid’s Fun Run in conjunction with the annual Oakland Running Festival on March 22.  The partnership enables children 12 years old and younger who are affiliated with Oakland Parks and Recreation and Youth Development (OPRYD) or Oakland Athletic League (OAL) to participate free of charge in Oakland’s biggest running event.

“We’re thrilled to provide this fun opportunity for hundreds of Oakland kids to participate in this year’s Oakland Running Festival,” said Chris Helfrich, CEO of Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation. “Our involvement in this event reflects our continued commitment to ensuring that young people in Oakland have safe places where they can be active and have equal access to participate in organized sports – it’s an honor to be involved.”

Stephen and Ayesha Curry’s Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation is committed to unlocking the amazing potential of every child by fighting to end childhood hunger and ensuring children have access to nutritious food, establishing that students have access to a quality education, and the resources to succeed, and providing opportunities and safe places for all children to play and be active.

The Kids Fun Run starts at 8:30 a.m. near Lake Merritt at the intersection of Lakeside Dr. and Harrison. There is a small entry fee for children who are not involved with OPRYD or OAL. All kid participants will receive a t-shirt, healthy snacks, and prizes.

Lee Corrigan, president of CSE and executive director of the Oakland Running Festival, said, “Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation’s mission mirrors our mission to provide a healthy event for Oakland. The Curry family’s dedication to the Oakland community should serve as inspiration and provide access for more kids to get more involved in running.”

The Oakland Running Festival start/finish line relocates back to the recently renovated Snow Park. The festival features a marathon, Kaiser Permanente half marathon, team relay, and Total Health Dental Care 5K, and the Eat. Learn. Play. Kids Fun Run. The festival attracts 10,000 runners from more than 30 states and nearly a dozen foreign countries.
