Longest running triathlon series in the US to be restored under new management

LOS ANGELES—JANUARY 12, 2022 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – This month, Spectrum Sports Management, the recognized leader in endurance and sporting events in Southern California, announces it will assume ownership and management of the oldest running triathlon series in the United States, the LA Tri-Series, started and operated by Tri-Events, Inc. Spectrum will also partner on operations and management with A Running Legacy to bring these events back after a hiatus during the Covid shutdown.

Tri Events has been producing triathlons for decades with the LA Tri-Series at Bonelli Park their cornerstone events. A family-owned organization for almost 39 years, Tri Events owners, the Wolk family, approached Spectrum Sports to take over the production and management of the events based upon Spectrum’s resume, reputation and respect in the industry, said Spectrum Sports Management’s President and CEO Mike Bone. “I actually lifeguarded for the family on running these events many, many years ago. The continuation of the series is important to both us and the family, and we intend to honor the traditions they’ve set forth.”

“It was my honor to have been Tri Event’s Race Director for the past several years, after taking the reins from my father, who started the business,” said Tri Event’s Carolyn Wolk. I am thrilled that Mike and his team will continue to what my family started. We are incredibly grateful for the commitment and dedication of our athletes to Tri Events over the years.”

Spectrum Sports Management will partner with A Running Legacy on the overall management and operation of the event, bringing together two of the most respected race management companies in Southern California to bring these events back from a two year absence after the pandemic shutdown. Previously A Running Legacy has operated the Holiday Running Festival, Long Beach Marathon and over 150 other events througout southern California.

There will be three Tri Event’s races in 2022:  April 10th, May 1st and October 2nd. Each event will include a Sprint Triathlon, Championship Distance Triathlon and Duathlons. Registration will be open in January; please see trievents.com for more information and registration.

“I am personally very excited to partner with A Running Legacy on these historic triathlons,” said Bone. “(Executive Director) Jason Bruton is a great operations guy and race director, as well as one of few people that hold up the mantle of the ‘Future of the Sport’ in Southern California. We’re looking forward to reaching great heights together.”
