Spartan to Hold North American Championship at Canada’s Big White Mountain

North America’s best OCR athletes to be decided outside U.S. for the first time

KELOWNA, BC (January 26, 2022) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The toughest obstacle course racers in North America will be crowned at Big White Mountain this summer as Spartan, the world’s leading endurance sports and extreme wellness brand, announced today that it will hold its North American Championship in Kelowna, British Columbia.

The Spartan Beast — a 21K course with 30 obstacles, the sport’s signature test — will decide the men’s and women’s titles. Big White Ski Resort will host the championship races on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022, with elite athletes competing for a share of $62,000 in total prize money.

This marks the first time its seven-year history that Spartan’s North American Championship will be held outside of the United States.

To qualify for the Elite Division, athletes must finish in the top 10 of an Elite heat in any event in North America between Oct. 2, 2021, and Aug. 21, 2022. Age Group competitors must finish in the top 10 of an Age Group heat in any North American event between Oct. 2, 2021, and Aug. 21, 2022.

All athletes are welcome to compete in the open qualification.

The North American Championship is part of the Kelowna Spartan race weekend, which also features a Spartan Ultra (50K course with 60 obstacles), Spartan Super (10K course with 25 obstacles), and kids’ races (1­–3K plus obstacles).
