Runners Rejoice at 13th Annual Life Time Chicago Spring Half Marathon and 10K

Daniela Araujo of Panama City and Kyle Phillips of Waynesboro, Pa. take first in their categories among a field of more than 5,000 runners across race distances

CHICAGO – (May 22, 2022) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The 13th annual Life Time Chicago Spring Half Marathon & 10K returned triumphantly after a two-year hiatus on Sunday, May 22 as more than 5,000 runners hailing from 47 states and 27 countries toed the start line at Maggie Daley Park downtown Chicago for their starts at 7 and 7:45 a.m., respectively. The event serves as the official kickoff to the summer running season in the Windy City. The course began on Columbus Drive south of Monroe Street and predominantly followed the Lakefront Trail, providing runners early-morning cityscape and waterfront views on a fast and flat course.

“With cheers heard throughout downtown, athletes’ positive energy and excitement to be back racing on the streets of Chicago after a long winter hibernation was infectious today,” said Allison Humbert-Wilkinson, Senior Marketing Director at Life Time. “It feels right to say that summer is here, and Life Time is proud to have hosted its welcoming party with so many incredible athletes.”

Top-three finishers in the women’s division of the half marathon:

  1. Daniela Araujo, 36, of Panama City, Panama. – 1:23:18
  2. Rachel Maniola, 25, of Chicago, Ill. – 1:26:04
  3. Catherine Lombardo, 27, of Chicago, Ill. – 1:26:23

Top-three finishers in the men’s division of the half marathon:

  1. Kyle Phillips, 29, of Waynesboro, Pa. – 1:11:01
  2. Luke O’Connor, 27, of St. Louis, Mo. – 1:13:04
  3. Ken Sprague, 27, of Chicago, Ill. – 1:14:33

Top-three finishers in the non-binary division of the half marathon:

  1. Andre Johnson, 42, of Manor, Tex. – 1:21:19
  2. Chris Neilson, 35, of Chicago, Ill. 1:43:38
  3. Cynthia Kmak of Chicago, Ill. 1:44:51

Race day festivities also include a Junior Dash half-mile race and Spring Market Finish Festival which provides runners a gourmet breakfast brunch, concessions, beer garden, and popular plant-your-own-flowerpot station. Fitness professionals from Life Time’s Chicagoland locations were on-site to lead runners through warm up routines and cooldown yoga classes post-race.
