Run Medford returns Sept. 22 and 23 with five-mile run, two-mile walk

April 26, 2023

Second annual event in Dave McGillivray’s hometown will raise funds for local nonprofits, programs

MEDFORD, Mass. /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – After launching last fall, Run Medford has announced it will once again bring a variety of community running and walking events in Medford, Mass., on Sept. 22 and 23. The event is presented by the Dave McGillivray Finish Strong Foundation and produced by DMSE Sports. The event will feature new distances and events, including a five-mile run and two-mile walk at Medford City Hall on Saturday morning, and as well as children’s and mile events at Hormel Stadium on Friday night. Festivities will kick off with the dedication of the Dave McGillivray Track at Hormel, an honor revealed by Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn to McGillivray at last year’s Run Medford event. Registration is now open for all distances.

The multi-day celebration of community, running, and the City of Medford highlights founder and race director Dave McGillivray’s connection, legacy, and community service with his hometown. Funds raised by Run Medford will be distributed by the Finish Strong Foundation to local beneficiaries in the Medford community, which will be announced in the coming months. Last year, the Foundation made donations of the proceeds to Charlotte and William Bloomberg Medford Public Library, Power Kids Summer Enrichment Program, Medford Parks And Recreation Program, Medford Senior Center and the Center For Citizenship And Social Responsibility At Medford High School.

Nearly 750 people turned out for the first edition of the race last September. All participants received Medford-themed swag including finish medals and t-shirts featuring the blue Mustang mascot of Medford High School. Finishers also received copies of McGillivray’s book “Running Across America, A True Story of Dreams, Determination and Heading for Home” – which tells the tale of his Medford, Ore. to Medford, Mass. run across the nation. DMSE Sports and the Finish Strong Foundation are planning to present locally-themed finisher giveaways and awards this year.
