September 16, 2022

Local famous faces take to the streets to compete in Medford this Sunday

Sept. 14, 2022, BOSTON – Nearly 20 celebrities will be toeing the line this Sunday at Run Medford, a brand new weekend-long celebration of community, running, and the City of Medford produced by DMSE Sports and hosted by the Dave McGillivray Finish Strong Foundation. Members of the media, sports legends, political leaders, and more will compete in the Mayor’s Celebrity Mile event, led by Medford Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn. The mile run is just one of three distances to choose from at Run Medford, which highlights founder and race director Dave McGillivray’s connection, legacy, and community service with his hometown. The celebrity field includes:

  • Two-time World Marathon Challenge champion Becca Pizzi
  • Hal Gabriel, who has completed over 100 marathons, including 22 Boston Marathons, and multiple IRONMAN triathlons
  • Olympian Ruben Sanca
  • Paul Veneto, who completed a 200-mile walk from Boston to New York City
  • John Young, an accomplished marathon runner and triathlete with dwarfism

1976 Boston Marathon champion Jack Fultz will act as the lead cyclist for the event. All are invited to come out and watch the star-student race. Runners and walkers can still register to participate in Run Medford’s 5k, 8k, mile and Kids Run events this Sunday at www.RunMedford.com.

“Run Medford will be just as fun to spectate as it will be to participate in. Our special celebrity guests have made an impact on Greater Boston and on the sports community, and seeing them all together on Sunday is going to be a thrill,,” said McGillivray. “Whether you want to come run with us or simply catch a glimpse of some famous local faces, there really will be something for everyone at this brand new event.”

Registration for the 8k and 5k events is $45. Entry into the kids’ fun run events is $10. Each participant will receive a finisher’s medal, t-shirt, a copy of McGillivray’s book “Running Across America, A True Story of Dreams, Determination and Heading for Home”, and, for those over 21 years old, two drink tickets for the post-race celebration.
