Registration launches for the 2023 Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon and the 2024 Louisiana Marathon

March 23, 2023

Sports tourism economic impact averages $4-5 million for each marathon weekend

BATON ROUGE, LA. /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The tandem of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon and the Louisiana Marathon have launched registration and are off to a great start. The weekend-long events bookend the holiday season with Coastal Mississippi hosting on December 9-10, 2023, and Baton Rouge hosting on January 13-14, 2024.

Runners who register by March 27 will not only receive the lowest price to compete, but those who sign up for the Half or Full Marathon will also receive an exclusive “In-Training” shirt to wear as they prepare for the race. Both events aim to celebrate and encourage an active and healthier lifestyle with weekend-long festivals rich with local food, live music, and fun for the whole family.

“Our FRESHJUNKIE Racing events have two primary goals,” said Mike Wattigny, Marketing Director. “We aim to deliver exceptional events for our participants that can inspire them to train and make healthy choices. Equally important is our goal to create an experience that attracts tourists from around the country to run or walk through the beautiful communities that host our events. When we inspire healthy living and provide a reason to travel, everyone wins!”

The focus on sports tourism is evident in the economic impact produced by the marathon weekends. The Mississippi Gulf Coast and Baton Rouge experience an economic impact of $4 million to $5 million annually as a result of the marathons. In the first three days we have registered runners from 26 states, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

Each weekend features a Full Marathon (26.2 miles) and Half Marathon (13.1 miles) on Sunday, and 5K (3.1 miles) and a Kids Marathon (1 mile) on Saturday. The Louisiana Marathon also features a Quarter Marathon (6.55 miles) on Saturday. Runners who compete in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon in Dec. 2023 and the Louisiana Marathon in Jan. 2024 are awarded the Beach~2~Bayou medal.
