Long Beach Marathon Prepares for Take Off with Long Beach Airport

September 15, 2022

Southern California’s premier fall marathon returns to the streets of Long Beach October 8-9, 2022

LONG BEACH – September 15, 2022 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Ahead of more than 15,000 runners hitting the pavement at the Long Beach Marathon and Half Marathon in October, Long Beach Airport (LGB) and race organizers today announced a renewed partnership for the 2022 event. The premier fall marathon in Southern California will welcome runners from across the U.S. to the oceanfront streets of downtown Long Beach for its 38th running on the weekend of October 8-9, 2022.

“The Long Beach Marathon is an event with a rich history in our community,” said Long Beach Airport Director Cynthia Guidry. “We know participants recognize how important an easy travel experience is to a great race weekend, and we are honored to continue this official partnership that brings participants and the community together.”

The Long Beach Marathon is a 26.2-mile street party combining fitness and community, featuring a weekend of events and activities for runners and spectators alike. The scenic course showcases the city’s miles of sandy beaches and eclectic neighborhoods, providing a platform for dozens of local charities and non-profit organizations to raise money for a variety of important causes.

“We can’t wait to celebrate the return of the Long Beach Marathon with the running community and our local civic partners, and the airport plays such an important role in the destination appeal of this historic event,” said Phyllis Blanchard, Director of Partnerships for the marathon. “From the palm trees to the sunshine, costal breezes and easy-going vibes, Long Beach Airport represents the quintessential characteristics of the city, which embody the same characteristics of the marathon. We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with the airport as marathon weekend in October quickly approaches.”

The marathon weekend happenings kick off on Friday, October 7 with a two-day Health and Wellness Expo downtown at the Long Beach Convention Center. The running gets started on Saturday with the Aquarium of the Pacific 5k, the perfect distance for athletes of all abilities. Participants can run or walk the 5k with friends and family or use it as a shakeout run for Sunday’s races.

Sunday’s events include the Long Beach Marathon, 13.1-mile half-marathon and the popular Bike Tour, which provides avid and leisure cyclists the opportunity to ride on the marathon’s closed roads. The bike tour features all the marathon fun without the run, including a commemorative event shirt, finishers medal, complimentary beer and more. Race weekend concludes with a finish line festival on Marina Green featuring a beer garden and live music.
