Innovative Australian brand illuminates the future of headlamps

October 1, 2020 – Melbourne, Australia – Knog, the designer of cult-favorite bike accessories and outdoor lighting products is thrilled to announce the official North American launch of the Bilby—the world’s most powerful silicone headlamp. Rechargeable, lightweight and seriously bright, the new Bilby 400 Lumen Silicone Headlamp is guaranteed to disrupt the market with its high-tech design and modern versatility.

In 2002, Australian designer Hugo Davidson and engineer Mal McKechnie founded Knog with a shared vision: to make “unboring” things. The newest addition to Knog’s line of futuristic silicone headlamps, the Bilby is no exception. “Our Bilby Headlamp design is the culmination of nearly 20 years of experience designing innovative lighting products that inspire people to explore the world on two wheels, or by two feet,” says Hugo Davidson, Knog designer and co-founder.

With a serious output of 400 Lumens, this USB rechargeable head torch offers an impressive five-hour runtime on full power, and over 105 hours on the lowest setting. Equipped with five LEDs, the lights on the Bilby are optimally placed for their individual purposes: a high beam to see by, two elliptical beams for mid and wide beam angles, a red light for night vision, and a downlight for reading. The Bilby is also compatible with Knog’s proprietary Modemaker App, which allows users to customize light and brightness from a library of 24 different modes. A truly personalized experience, users can increase the Bilby’s configuration from six to eight modes, or just choose one mode that best suits the task at hand.

Molded in a matte-finish medical grade silicone, the Bilby is ideal for hiking, climbing, biking, fitness, hunting, fishing, trade-work and everything in between. It’s naturally antimicrobial and easy to clean, lightweight yet durable, dustproof and waterproof up to 1m (1P67 rating), and comfortably form-fitting. Expanding from 30-66cm, the silicone strap adjusts with a simple toggle, offering a fit suitable for both children and adults, and can even be worn over helmets.

“We specifically focused on how we could improve every aspect of the traditional headlamp, starting with designing an elastomeric silicone body, advanced variable optics, and LED technologies, all the way to including a programmable user interface,” notes Davidson. “As we like to say— welcome to the future of headlamps,” he added.

The new Bilby Headlamp is now available via North American distributor Eartheasy Distribution and at www.knog.com.
