Chevron Houston Marathon Launches Global Running Day Virtual Challenge

June 1, 2020

Registration is Free for the RunHou 100,000 Mile Virtual Challenge

Global Running Day, a day that brings the entire world together through the celebration of running, is set for Wednesday, June 3, 2020. This year, social gatherings for Global Running Day events may be paused but people will be uniting virtually in a global effort to continue to encourage physical wellness and strengthen communities. The Chevron Houston Marathon is offering free registration to the RunHou 100,000 Mile Global Running Day Virtual Challenge.

The RunHou Challenge was created to bring the Houston running community back together in spirit to reach a collective goal of 100,000 miles run throughout the month of June beginning on Global Running Day.

“People turn to running for many different reasons but right now more than ever, it is a shared outlet that reminds us all of the positives that come from it,” said Wade Morehead, Executive Director of the Houston Marathon Committee and Houston Marathon Foundation. “Creating a virtual challenge for Global Running Day is a way that the Houston Marathon Committee can help unite its participants and members of the running community around the world in a time when it is needed most.”

Once participants have registered for the virtual challenge, they will be able to log in to their participant account throughout the month of June to submit their miles to be included in the Houston total miles. The total collective miles run can be tracked on the official Chevron Houston Marathon website and social media channels. Participants are encouraged to share their miles on Instagram using the hashtag #RunHouTogether.

Each participant will receive a customized digital race bib and an official digital participant certificate with their individual total miles and time.  Additionally, challenge runners will be entered to receive prizes such as an entry into the event of their choice for the 2021 Houston Marathon Weekend of Events complete with a VIP Marathon Experience as well as other random giveaways.

During registration, members of Houston Area Road Runners Association (HARRA) running clubs will be able to select their club affiliate from an official list to participate in the Run Club Bonus Challenge. The individual running club with the most total miles run will also receive a prize – a We Run Hou Super Aid Station brought to you by the Houston Marathon Committee and its partners, exclusively hosted for the members of their club.

The challenge will conclude on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. CT. The Chevron Houston Marathon will then share how many total miles were run in the month of June by Houston’s running community around the world for a virtual celebration of our running community.
