June 7, 2026

Daniel Ebeyno and Daniel Romanchuk set new course records

CHICAGO (June 7, 2026) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – On a warm and sunny Sunday morning, 10,000 participants took part in the fifth annual Bank of America Chicago 13.1. Created to reimagine what running in Chicago can be, the race has become a can’t-miss event for local runners, with 88 percent of the field hailing from Illinois. Following a Saturday filled with community-based wellness activities, Sunday’s half marathon took runners on a tour through Chicago’s historic West Side parks and boulevards, looping through Garfield, Douglass, and Humboldt Parks.

Daniel Ebenyo and Laura Galvan took the titles in the men’s and women’s professional races. Daniel Romanchuk captured his fifth straight title in the wheelchair competition, while Tatyana McFadden won the women’s division. Juan Martinez claimed the top spot in the non-binary running competition.

“We’re thrilled to return to the West Side for the fifth Bank of America Chicago 13.1,” said Carey Pinkowski, Executive Race Director of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Shamrock Shuffle and Chicago 13.1. “This event could not have grown to what it is without the support of the local community. We value the partnerships we’ve been able to establish and look forward to further strengthening these relationships in the years ahead.”

Ebenyo set an aggressive pace from the start, putting 29 seconds between himself and the chase pack by 5K. He built on his lead throughout the race and broke the tape in 1:00:39 for a new course record. Futsum Zienasellassie followed, taking second in 1:01:37, while newcomer Bob Liking finished third in 1:01:55.

The women’s race began with Laura Galvan, Molly Born, Sara Vaughn and 2024 Bank of America Chicago 13.1 champion Joyline Chemutai running together. By 15K, Galvan had established herself as the leader, and she went on to win the race in 1:10:11. Born came in second in 1:11:58 and Chemutai rounded out the top three with a 1:14:00.

Daniel Romanchuk continued his winning streak in the men’s wheelchair race, crossing the finish line in 41:54 for a new course record and personal best. Evan Correll and Aaron Pike rounded out the podium, both finishing in 47:06. In her first Chicago 13.1, Tatyana McFadden took first place in the women’s wheelchair race with a 50:27. Hannah Babalola claimed second in 56:02, crossing the finish line just two seconds before third place finisher Yen Hoang (56:04).

Juan Martinez topped the podium in 1:31:53 in the non-binary division, followed by Kadeem McBean and Oliver Grenke to round out the top three.

As the second event in the Bank of America Chicago Distance Series, the Chicago 13.1 continues to build momentum following the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle in March and leading into the Bank of America Chicago Marathon in October. The series invites runners to experience Chicago’s distinct neighborhoods across three events throughout the year.
