athleteReg Launches Automated Sales Tax Functionality
June 23, 2020
As an industry leading registration platform with BikeReg, RunReg, TriReg, SkiReg, and PledgeReg, athleteReg continues to stay at the forefront of registration with their new sales tax functionality.
(Easthampton, MA) – In accordance with new Marketplace Facilitator laws throughout the United States, athleteReg has released a complete solution to facilitate collecting and remitting sales tax on behalf of our event directors in qualifying states.
Marketplace Facilitator laws, which vary state-by-state, are the result of the landmark Supreme Court decision in South Dakota v. Wayfair. This ruling requires marketplace facilitators, (such as registration platforms) to collect and remit sales tax on behalf of their third-party sellers (event directors).
For states, these laws simplify tax collection, because they can collect from fewer entities. For event directors, the benefit lies in having athleteReg take care of real-time calculations, collection, remittance, and compliance.
“We’re embracing these laws and their complexity,” said athleteReg CEO Ross Krause. “For over two decades, we’ve worked hard, creating tools and offering support to event directors that simplify their process. We see this as a way to provide additional services to our clients by taking on the burden of tracking legislation, collecting and remitting taxes, and providing peace of mind.”
