This Wine-Filled Marathon Sold Out in 9 Minutes
August 16, 2026
Marathon training plans don’t usually include “sip wine at regular intervals,” but that’s exactly what some runners are doing for France’s Marathon du Medoc. As the Wall Street Journal’s Elyse Goncalves explains, the 26.2-mile race through Bordeaux’s vineyards turns the course into a roaming tasting room: 20 wine stops, plus tables of cheese, oysters, steak, croissants, and ice cream, all tackled in costume—this year’s theme is the 1980s. It’s popular enough that the 8,500 available bibs sold out in nine minutes for the event’s 40th running on Sept. 5, with a waitlist three times larger than the field. newser
