Bomb scare threatens NCAA Track and Field Championships
June 10, 2026
On Tuesday, teams practicing for the upcoming 2026 NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships evacuated after a bomb threat was made at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. The evacuation occurred at approximately 1:40 p.m. PDT on Tuesday, one day before the championship was scheduled to begin.
After a comprehensive two-and-a-half-hour sweep of the stadium by law enforcement, including the University of Oregon Police Department, Eugene Police Department and Lane County Sheriff’s Office, the agencies gave the all-clear.
Shortly after 4 p.m. PDT, once authorities determined there was no threat, The Athletic reported that NCAA assistant director Marcus Thatcher emailed media members, saying, “The search found nothing of concern and normal activities can resume.” CANADIANRunning
