UltraSignup Welcomes Brian Metzler as Director of Media to Lead the Next Evolution of Trail Running Storytelling
October 17, 2025

Nashville, TN ( October 17,2025) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – UltraSignup, the leading marketplace for trail and ultra running, is proud to announce the addition of Brian Metzler to the team as Director of Media. Metzler, a longtime journalist and storyteller in the running world, joins UltraSignup to guide the next phase in growing a multimedia platform for the trail running community.
UltraSignup has long been known as the place where runners and race directors connect to discover their next running adventure. Over the past several years, UltraSignup has become not only a marketplace but also a trusted voice in trail running media through its weekly newsletter, reaching hundreds of thousands of runners, original editorial features, podcasts, and community events like Dirt Circus. As trail running experiences explosive growth across the globe, there’s never been a more opportune moment to expand UltraSignup’s media presence in step with the sport’s momentum. With Metzler’s leadership, UltraSignup will continue to build on that foundation—expanding its approach to storytelling across multiple formats and amplifying the diverse voices that make the sport unique.
A Broader Vision for Trail Running Media
Traditional endurance media has often existed in isolation and competition. It’s a fragmented landscape that’s become increasingly more difficult to navigate. As a result, the stories that are getting told aren’t reaching the runners that want to hear them. UltraSignup is taking a more open approach, connecting with over 400,000 highly engaged runners to bring them a new “front page of trail running” — a home where the best stories, news, and voices in the sport come together through aggregation, curation, and original multimedia storytelling. UltraSignup aims to make it easier for runners to discover great storytelling and for creators to reach the audiences who value their work.
“UltraSignup already sits at the center of the trail running community. Our goal is not to become the biggest content creator in the sport,” said David Callahan, Co-CEO of UltraSignup. “Instead, we want to become the most trusted distribution partner for the creators who are already doing the best work, while connecting readers directly to the content and voices that matter most to them.”
Metzler brings decades of experience in endurance sports media, including leadership roles in print, digital, and video storytelling. His work has chronicled everything from world-class performances to the everyday triumphs that define trail running culture.
In addition to having been the founding editor-in-chief of Trail Runner and Adventure Sports magazines, he has held key roles with and contributed to numerous other media, including Runner’s World, Six Minute Mile, Competitor Group, Men’s Journal, Sports Illustrated, MotivSports and Outside.
“Trail running is full of stories that deserve to be told—from runners chasing their first finish line to those redefining what’s possible in the sport,” Metzler said. “What excites me about this role is helping UltraSignup continue to elevate those stories through every medium—writing, podcasts, photography, and film—and to make them accessible to the entire community.”
This evolution reflects UltraSignup’s ongoing mission: to transform endurance racing by fostering connection, supporting community, and helping runners arrive at the start line happy, healthy, and ready to race.
