Another Mother Runner Celebrates Its 12th Year of Running Strong

June 23, 2022

AMR has been inspiring and keeping women moving forward for a dozen years

Portland, OR – (June 2022) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Another Mother Runner (AMR), founded by Dimity McDowell and Sarah Bowen Shea, is celebrating its 12th year of running strong with a virtual 12K over the course of this upcoming weekend, June 24 – 26. Designed to form-fit a woman’s schedule and current running situation, she can race it for a PR or walk it with a friend; cover the distance in one shot or over multiple days; or make new BRFs (Best Running Friends) by joining one of our organized group runs. Because we know running thrives on supportive communities like ours, we are donating 5% of registration fees to Brave Like Gabe.

Another Mother Runner is a large, vibrant, inclusive (and free!) community of female runners worldwide that connects from in-person retreats to online discussions — and pretty much every other way in between. AMR began with the 2010 release of their best-selling book, Run Like a Mother. It hit the shelves and quickly struck a chord with audiences across the country. In the 12 years since the debut of the bright yellow book, McDowell and Shea have published two more best-selling books, Train Like a Mother and Tales From Another Mother Runner.

The duo hosts three successful podcasts, with the first one debuting in 2011. A fresh episode of the Another Mother Runner podcast is released every Friday; AMR Trains airs every other Tuesday, with AMR Answers on alternate Tuesdays. The AMR podcasts, which enjoy nearly 150,000 monthly downloads, cover the gamut of topics helpful and entertaining to women who run. From nutrition to mental toughness, marathon training to returning to running postpartum, the AMR podcasts provide advice for the novice runner up to Boston-bound runners .

“Stepping into the podcast world more than a decade ago allowed us to build a loyal, enthusiastic audience, adding new listeners constantly—including gals who start at the beginning and binge on our 700+ episodes,” says host Shea. “Our podcasts are the main gateway for gals discovering AMR.”

AMR has a robust social media presence on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. AMR also publishes newsletters three times a week with unique and fresh content from a variety of contributors who share inspiring and funny stories about all the highs and lows of running. The newsletter also features Gears Up, a monthly feature written by longtime freelance writer Rachel Walker. These gear reviews cover an array of roundups, including best running sunglasses, sports bras, running shorts, and winter running accessories..

McDowell and Shea also created Train Like a Mother (TLAM), which offers training programs ranging from getting a woman ready for her first 10K to completing half and full marathons, nutrition boot camps, mental toughness, triathlons, and even ultramarathons. TLAM also has its hugely popular Many Happy Miles, an annual program that offers a 365-day training schedule, guest speakers such as Des Linden and Kara Goucher, discounts from our marketing partners, and all the motivation you need to get out the door. Since its launch in 2015, TLAM has grown to offer more than two dozen programs.

“Train Like a Mother has totally changed my life,” offers Beth, a mom of two in Olathe, KS. “And that is not an understatement! I have more energy and joy for all of life, thanks to becoming a regular runner with TLAM!”

AMR ia sponsored by a variety of impressive brands in the running space, including Oiselle, Handful Bras, Nuun, GU, Balega, NordicTrack, Saucony, Wrightsock, Runderwear, Topo Athletic, KINeSYS sunscreen, and countless others. McDowell and Shea vet all potential partner products with several sweat-sessions before giving it their stamp of approval and sharing the products with the AMR community. The AMR marketing team executes giveaways, podcast ads, social media ads, newsletter mentions, in-person events, and digital marketing campaigns for these brands on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis.

AMR is grateful to have touched so many women’s lives over the past 12 years, and we are excited to continue pursuing our number #1 goal: inspiring and motivating women to keep moving forward. We cheer each other’s PRs; we empathize with injuries; we gently push each other out the door; we laugh daily and overshare occasionally; and together we celebrate the running lifestyle.
