Wesley Kiptoo Chases History in Pittsburgh: Seeks Unprecedented Three-Peat at UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon

The two-time champion, who broke his own race record last year, hopes to become the first person to break the finishers tape three times

PITTSBURGH, PA (April 9, 2024) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Back-to-Back UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon champion Wesley Kiptoo is on a thrilling quest to become the first person to win the race three times.

In 2022, Kiptoo burst onto the half marathon scene, shattering the UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon event record and clinching victory in his half-marathon debut. His return in 2023 was nothing short of spectacular, as he elevated the competition by smashing his own record by three seconds and breaking the tape in 1:01:22. Now, Kiptoo is back, right after a big win at this past weekend’s Cherry Blossom 10 Miler and a burning desire to outdo himself once more on the streets of Pittsburgh.

“I can’t wait to return to Pittsburgh,” Kiptoo said. “The organizers make me feel very welcome. There are always very strong athletes, which makes winning very special.”

With a spirit that refuses to back down, Kiptoo is ready to face off against the elite group of international runners descending on Pittsburgh the first weekend in May.

“This year I look forward to seeing all my friends and to making new friends. I will try very hard for my third win and to set a new course record,” Kiptoo said.
