Tuscaloosa, AL/ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Lace up your running shoes and mark your calendars! The Visit Tuscaloosa Half Marathon + Publix 5K, scheduled for March 23, 2024, is not just about the thrill of the run; it’s an opportunity to make a significant impact on the community. This year, the event is proud to announce its partnership with Secret Meals For Hungry Children, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending childhood food insecurity in the community. “I am thrilled that Secret Meals will be a benefiting charity of this event. While our mission is to end childhood food insecurity in our communities, we also strive to encourage healthy lifestyles and this partnership can help us with both”, says Nicole Fulgham, the program director for Secret Meals.

Running for a Cause:

This March, hundreds of dedicated runners will hit the pavement to complete the Visit Tuscaloosa Half Marathon + Publix 5K, each step taken with a purpose – to support the vital work of Secret Meals. The partnership aims to raise awareness and funds for weekend food packs that are distributed to students who have been identified as going hungry over the weekend.

Why Support Secret Meals For Hungry Children?

Secret Meals has a proven track record of making a meaningful difference in the lives of children who have been identified as living in a food insecure household. By participating in the Visit Tuscaloosa Half Marathon + Publix 5K, runners and sponsors alike have the chance to contribute to a cause that truly matters. The funds raised will directly impact elementary aged students in West Alabama. Weekend food packs are sent home with these students who have been identified by their school officials. Currently, Secret Meals serves 1,778 students in West Alabama every weekend. It costs $4 to feed 1 child each weekend.

How You Can Get Involved:

  1. Run for a Cause: Lace up your sneakers and join the Visit Tuscaloosa Half Marathon + Publix 5K.
