Two-day London Marathon, with 100,000 participants, confirmed for 2027

June 19, 2026

The 2027 London Marathon will be held as a historic two-day event for the first time, taking place on Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25. Organizers have confirmed a record 100,000 participants will be able to run the full 26.2-mile route from Greenwich to The Mall, with approximately 50,000 runners each day. This “Double” format doubles the usual participation capacity to meet unprecedented demand, as a record 1.33 million people have already applied for the 2027 ballot.

This expansion is expected to create the largest fundraising moment in UK sporting history, with organizers anticipating over £150 million raised for charitable causes. The event will also generate approximately £400 million in social and economic benefits for the UK. The marathon will showcase London’s capital while creating opportunities for more individuals, charities, and communities to participate in what organizers call “the world’s greatest marathon.”

The championship races will be distributed across both days, with women, female paraathletes, and “good for age” women competing on the same day alongside a mixed mass event featuring nearly 50,000 participants. Ballots for the 2027 edition will be selected in July, significantly improving odds for those who entered given the doubled participant capacity compared to typical years. Endurance Biz
