Tonal Announces Two Strength Training for Triathletes Programs with Guest Coach and Six-time Ironman Triathlon World Champion Mark Allen

July 28, 2020

Programs are the First of a Broader Sport Performance Content Initiative

SAN FRANCISCO — Tonal, the world’s most intelligent home gym and personal trainer, today announced it will be launching two new strength training programs geared at all levels of triathletes in partnership with Mark Allen, six-time Ironman Triathlon World Champion. This is the first sport as part of a broader Sport Performance content initiative, where Tonal will be partnering with the top coaches and athletes within a given sport as guest coaches to bring expert-level Sport Performance training to Tonal members.

Tonal is the most effective strength training equipment and technology on the market for supplementing a cardio routine. Tonal’s strength training for triathletes content will include two separate four week programs where Mark Allen will provide the guidance to better power swimming, biking, and running through his very own training curriculum. Tonal offers the option to prep for pre-season training or to sustain strength while in top racing shape.

“It’s an absolute honor to have a legend like Mark Allen share his extensive experience and expertise as one of the greatest endurance athletes in the world,” said Chris Stadler, Chief Marketing Officer of Tonal. “It’s also an exciting first as we officially kick off our Sports Performance content that will continue to feature world renown athletes developing workout programs to help our members be their strongest physically and mentally for their favorite sport.”

TRIATHLETE PROGRAMS OVERVIEW

“Triathlon Endurance”: Pre-season Training

Designed for training leading up to your race season, Tonal’s first triathlon program focuses on developing base strength and perfecting technique. With lighter weight and high reps, this program will help build a strong aerobic foundation, develop flawless technique, and prevent injury. Improve overall quality and power for race season.

4 Days a Week

  • Days 1 & 3: Full-body strength
  • Days 2 & 4: Stability and core

“Triathlon Power”: In-season Training [Launching August 17th, 2020]

Tonal’ second triathlete program will help refine power to become a more efficient athlete. Designed for training while in competition season, this program is designed with lower reps and higher weight recommendations to sustain strength without over exerting muscles. A focus on lateral motion addresses a training gap that many triathletes overlook. This program will help with training with the most power possible.

4 Days a Week

  • Days 1 & 3: Strength & power
  • Days 2 & 4: Multidirectional movements & core

Mark Allen is an American triathlete and six-time Ironman Triathlon World Champion. He was also the champion of the very first Olympic Distance World Championship in Avignon. He was victorious in the Nice International Triathlon all ten times he raced it and won 20 straight races over a three year period from 1988-1990. Voted “Greatest Endurance Athlete Of All Time” by ESPN, Mark Allen was raised in Palo Alto, and now lives in Santa Cruz, CA where he works as a personal trainer for aspiring triathletes everywhere.

Tonal combines intelligence with revolutionary equipment to be an entire gym, on demand, with the convenience of being at home. By using a proprietary digital weight system instead of metal plates, Tonal can generate 200 pounds of resistance and replicate every machine in the weight room with a fraction of the equipment, allowing for full body exercise —from legs to biceps—all with one device. Each member starts with a strength assessment, and based on strength and goals, Tonal’s A.I. will customize the weights and dynamically adjust them in real-time for the most personalized and intelligent strength training experience available.

Tonal’s first Triathlete program is available starting July 27, 2020; more information can be found here.
