Tis the Season to Tri: IRONMAN Virtual Club Caps off Successful First Year with a Series of Challenges and Workouts Designed to Reward Athletes as They Stay Fit throughout the Holiday Season

21 specially designed workouts to help athletes work towards completing their monthly challenge

TAMPA, Fla. (December 4, 2020) – With the holiday season here, the IRONMAN® Virtual Club™ will wrap up its successful inaugural year by offering athletes the perfect way to challenge themselves and stay fit throughout the month of December with Tis The Season To TRI. Following the culmination of 34 IRONMAN Virtual Racing Series events that has seen the platform grow to over 125,000 members, the IRONMAN VC platform will offer a month-long challenge and a series of daily workouts specifically design to cap the first year of virtual racing while rewarding all its participants.

Beginning Monday, November 30 and running through Sunday, January 3, Tis The Season To TRI will offer two virtual challenges, a 150km option and 300km option, both designed to allow athletes to complete the distance goal over the entirety of the holiday season with the flexibility to complete the prescribed distances on their time.

In addition, athletes will also have access to 21 specially designed workouts to progress towards their challenge requirement. Workouts will each be open for one day, with the exception of the final workout which will be open from Friday, Jan. 1 through Sunday, Jan. 3. Workouts will begin daily at 7:00 p.m. ET Friday, Dec. 11 (12:00 a.m. GMT Saturday, Dec. 12) and ending 6:59 p.m. ET (11:59 p.m. GMT) Sunday, Jan. 2.

Also beginning on December 12, each workout will be live for completion on its designated day with its special prize revealed on IRONMAN social media channels and on the IRONMAN VC platform. Prizes will include the new HOKA Carbon X shoe, ROKA wetsuits and swim skins, ROKA sunglasses, Suunto watches, Santini trisuits, Kask helmets and OGIO Duffle bags, as well as a $250 IRONMAN Store gift card. Each day there will be five winners and finishers will receive emails with information about the deals they can get on those products in the IRONMAN Store. In addition, for all Suunto challenge finishers, Suunto is offering exclusive codes for great deals on the Suunto website. The final challenge will run through New Year’s weekend and conclude on the night of January 3, 2021.

IRONMAN VR The Inaugural Season

Since its initial launch in March of 2020, the IRONMAN Virtual Club has grown to reach over 125,000 members across 180 nations and all U.S. States on the platform. With hundreds of thousands completing one of the 34 IRONMAN VR races offered since its debut, the innovative platform continues to bring the IRONMAN community together virtually week after week.

The evolution of the platform, including three consecutive IRONMAN VR Championship Series offering IRONMAN 70.3® World Championship qualifying slots, a five-week long IRONMAN VR Kona® Series providing a one-of-kind celebrating the celebrate iconic IRONMAN World Championship®, and the IRONMAN VR World Tour have provided athletes unique virtual experiences in a variety of environments. In addition, the Race Honorably campaign provided an exceptional virtual racing experience with credible results that required athletes to do their part by entering accurate data.

To date, 97 athletes have completed all 34 IRONMAN VR races, running over 504km and cycling over 1,690km since the IRONMAN VR1 held in early April of this year. In addition, seven athletes have completed at least one IRONMAN VR challenge every week since the platform launched, while two athletes have completed all 34 IRONMAN VR races every week and at least one IRONMAN VR challenge to date marking a remarkable accomplishment.

IRONMAN VR Global TriClub Championship

During the IRONMAN VR World Tour final stop in Taupō, New Zealand for IRONMAN VR33, TriClubs from around the globe competed in the first-ever IRONMAN VR Global TriClub Championship. The virtual TriClub Championship ran from November 16 – 22 and was based on participation points that were earned each time they worked out with a connected device on the IRONMAN Virtual Club platform. TriClubs also received bonus points from competing in IRONMAN VR33. In total, there were 534 clubs that competed with a combined total of 69,515 miles (111,873 km) raced. The Top 3 Clubs with the highest number of participation points were calculated and the IRONMAN VR TriClub Global Champions have been crowned. The top clubs will receive a custom on-site race experience in 2021. The winners are:

  • 1st place – Team Zoot, United States
  • 2nd place – Team ERDINGER Alkoholfrei, Germany
  • 3rd place – Infinite Multisport Triathlon Club, United States
