The Trans-Texas Virtual Run Raises Over $16,000 for the Tarahumara Community Affected by COVID-19

September 15, 2020

Houston, Texas (September 15, 2020)Trail Racing Over Texas (TROT), the largest trail racing company in Texas and host of The Trans-Texas Virtual Run has raised over $16,000 for its nonprofit charity partner, True Messages, to help the Tarahumara of Northern Mexico as they wrestle with the Novel Coronavirus.

“I’m really proud of how our amazing running community came together to sign up and donate to the Tarahumara,” says race director Rob Goyen. “The Raramuri people have been decimated by COVID-19 and our donations to True Messages ensures that families have needed food and supplies to make it to the other side of this pandemic.”

True Messages was established to support of the indigenous Raramuri (Tarahumara) peoples of the Sierra Tarahumara. Their efforts retain the goals of Norawas de Raramuri, the nonprofit founded by Ultrarunner Micah True (El Caballo Blanco), by supporting the running heritage that remains so important to the Raramuri culture and self-identity. With the community struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic, True Messages began working in earnest to provide needed supplies to the Raramuri.

Registration for the Trans-Texas Virtual Run closes on September 30, 2020 and individuals and teams have until the end of 2020 to complete the 879 miles across the state. All participants will receive a bib, tri-blend gender-specific shirt, a course map and sticker when they register and a custom finisher’s medal designed by Elevation Culture when they complete the challenge. Runners will also be entered into random drawings for giveaways from the event sponsors through the end of the year. Individuals and teams can register on ultrasignup.com.
