The most popular road race in Austria – Ötztaler RadMarathon – revisits the epic Timmelsjoch Pass virtually

Sölden, Austria / The global cycling community is invited to overtake the winter edition of the most popular cycling race in Austria, along with the invited pros, from home. It’s all set for the Race & Challenge to conquer the great and picturesque climb of the Timmelsjoch on December 4th, on ROUVY. All riders completing the Challenge by Dec 20, will have a chance to win the accommodation and entry for the real race in 2022.

The Timmelsjoch Pass

A 30km uphill course in the Ötztal Alps, popularly known in Italy as the Passo del Rombo, connects the Ötztal valley and the Italian province of South Tyrol. Whether in Germany, Italy or overseas – the Oetztal Cycle Marathon route sections on ROUVY make every passionate cyclist fight and sweat it out. With its 28.7 kilometers distance and 1,759 meters of altitude, the legendary finale of the classic cycle marathon also serves as the perfect mountain race course.

The Challenge

With 2 weeks already in, racing cyclists from all around the globe have the unique opportunity to prove themselves in the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon ROUVY Challenge. It is important to master the legendary mountain stages by Dec 20th, 2021. The finishers receive a virtual Ötztaler Cycle Marathon badge and chances for the real prizes in a draw.

Currently almost 2,000 riders have registered for the challenge, and will dial in for the chance to get the real outdoor Ötztaler Radmarathon Weekend prizes:

The Race and PROs

After the 2-week acclimatization Challenge period, it is now down to the nitty-gritty with a mountain race on 4th Dec 2021, 15:00 CET.

The special guests from the pro peloton are Daniel Köll, Karl Markt, Patrick Hagenaars and Philip Handl. 

The race will have a broadcast, streaming live on YouTube and Facebook. The broadcast with many interesting studio guests, reviews of past ÖRMs and prospects for the year 2022 will start at 14:30 CET.

About Ötztaler RadMarathon

Every year 4,000 racing cyclists have a dream: To conquer probably the most demanding cycle marathon in the Alps. The race course covers 238 kilometers, leading from Sölden over 4 Alpine passes (Kühtai saddle, Brenner pass, Jaufen pass and the Timmelsjoch) to South Tyrol and back again. The participants master an incredible 5,500 meters of altitude, with the fastest cyclists reaching the finish line in a record time of just over 7 hours.
