The Los Angeles Skid Row Runners Set to Compete in the Los Angeles Herbalife24 Triathlon

October 1, 2021

LOS ANGELESOct. 1, 2021— The Los Angeles Skid Row Running Club will take on a new challenge, the Los Angeles Herbalife24 Triathlon on October 24, 2021, to raise funds for its club that works to improve the lives of those who are at risk of homelessness and addiction.

“We believe the power of community can make a positive and long-term impact on a person’s life,” said Jennifer Guran, director of Sports Marketing, Herbalife Nutrition, North America. “We will be cheering on the club as they cross the finish line.”

The club, named after Skid row, an impoverished area that occupies about 50 street blocks in downtown Los Angeles whose inhabitants are primarily poor people “on the skids” was founded by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Craig Mitchell. The club develops a dedicated running program for its participants to keep them focused on fitness while encouraging mentor/mentee relationships for members.

“This running club not only saved my life but many others as well,” said Gio Ayala, member of the Skid Row Runners. “On race day, we’ll compete to show others that they can get their lives back on track too.”

Technical sports apparel company, 2XU, is supporting Skid Row Running Club members on their journey to the finish line and is providing the team with essential triathlon gear for their training and race day, including fully customized triathlon and cycling. In addition, the company will be launching one-of-a-kind Skid Row Running Club kits, available on the 2XU website, and for each kit sold, 15% will be donated to support the club.

“We’re honored to support these inspiring individuals who have already conquered so much in their life,” said Luke O’Shea, 2XU CMO.

The 2021 Herbalife24 Triathlon Los Angeles and 5k will include an International and Sprint Distance Triathlon and Aquabike race and the Herbalife24 Cycling Tour, which follows a course through the streets of Los Angeles that will be separate from the official triathlon course.
