ROTH/ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – German long-distance triathlon record holder, Laura Philipp, will be competing again at DATEV Challenge Roth on 7 July 2024. The 36-year-old is returning to the Home of Triathlon after her third place in Roth last year.
“Would like to perform even better”
Laura Philipp has a very clear goal, “Roth is one of two highlight races of the season for me, which will be my main focus. My goal is to win Roth. After a first year of learning in Roth, I now want to perform even better. My team and I have discussed all the details and drawn up a plan for a successful race. The unique atmosphere in the Home of Triathlon 2023 has inspired me so much that I definitely want to be at the start with a top performance in 2024. I am once again looking forward to the support of the enthusiastic fans and the great volunteers in the Roth region.”
With an outstanding time of 8:25:31, Philipp celebrated a strong Roth debut with third place in 2023 and also made it onto the podium at Ironman Hawaii 2023. With a best time of 8:18:20, she holds the current Ironman best time and is only seven seconds behind Chrissie Wellington’s 12-year world best time and 10 minutes behind Daniela Ryf’s current world best time from 2023, which was also set in Roth.
“Laura has already shown what she’s capable of in recent years. The Roth triathlon district will definitely be shouting for her and all the other athletes and will carry her to further top performances. We are delighted that Laura has decided to compete in Roth again,” said race director, Felix Walchshöfer.
Strong competition expected for Laura Philipp
Planning for the race on 7 July is currently in full swing and the final start list for the women’s field will not be known until shortly before the race. In addition to Laura Philipp, other top-class athletes have already confirmed their participation in DATEV Challenge Roth 2024.
The 2012 Olympic silver medallist, Lisa Norden, will also be returning to Roth. Like Laura Philipp, the Swede only made her debut in the triathlon Mecca of Roth last year. The multiple Ironman winner finished fifth on her debut.
2024 will also be Svenja Thoes’ second start in Roth. The 32-year-old, who balances careers as a professional triathlete and flight attendant, finished seventh in Roth in 2022 and has already several long distance wins to her name.
Laura Siddall is another crowd favourite returning to the triathlon mecca. This will be the Brit’s sixth start in Franconia after she had to pull out last year due to injury. After securing second place in 2021, she narrowly missed out on the podium in 2022 in fourth place.
Magda Nieuwoudt will represent the colours of South Africa in the women’s professional field. She won the Challenge Family World Bonus in 2023 and several races in the global series, including Challenge Davos and Challenge Sanremo.
The German trio of Carolin Lehrieder from the Erdinger Active Team, Laura Zimmermann and Anne Reischmann, who won Challenge Gdansk in 2023 and is listed as the fourth-best German in the PTO ranking, could also achieve a good result.
Exciting long-distance debut for local Roth athlete
Triathlon fans from the district of Roth and beyond can eagerly await Rebecca Robisch’s long-distance debut. Born in Roth, she has already shown her strengths in the short and middle distance in the past. Robisch already became German champion over the sprint distance in 2011 and could now also cause a surprise on the long distance. After announcing her retirement from the national triathlon team in 2016, she has impressed with her performances again recently. She won Challenge Israman in early March 2024, the Allgäu Triathlon and the Rothsee Triathlon in 2023. She also won the Cologne Marathon in 2017 and 2018.
