Steelers Run and Walk Celebrates Steelers Nation with this Year’s Virtual Event

July 1, 2020

The Steelers annual Run and Walk event goes virtual, allowing Steelers Nation across the globe to participate

PITTSBURGH, PA (July 1, 2020) – The Steelers Run and Walk, presented by Gatorade, opened registration to Steelers Nation worldwide for this year’s virtual 5K event, which begins on Aug. 17 and will conclude on Sept. 14, when the team opens the regular season at the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.

Steelers fans from across the globe can participate with the entire family in the virtual run and walk, and there also will be a virtual Kid’s Fun Run for youth Steelers fans. Race participants are encouraged to share their training and race journeys on social media using #SteelersRunWalk so their fellow Steel City runners know how they’re doing.

Participants of this year’s virtual event will receive a race shirt, finisher’s medal and a virtual goodie bag. Registrants will also be entered for chances to win prizes, including items autographed by favorite players.

The event will continue to benefit the Art Rooney Scholarship Fund, which annually provides a grant to a North Catholic High School student and funds the Pittsburgh Promise scholarships for two North Side students graduating from Pittsburgh high schools, as well as the Chuck Noll Foundation, which supports continued research and education regarding brain injuries and the treatment of sports-related concussions.

In addition to presenting partner Gatorade, supporting partners are UPMC Centers for Rehab Services, Giant Eagle and Activbody.

The Art Rooney Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in memory of the late founder of the Steelers, who died in August of 1988 after living most of his life on the North Side. The scholarship annually provides a grant to a North Catholic High School student and funds the Pittsburgh Promise scholarships for two students graduating from Pittsburgh high schools who are residents of the North Side. Since its beginning, the scholarship has awarded grants to 90 local students.

Chuck Noll Foundation for Brain Injury Research

The Steelers launched the Chuck Noll Foundation for Brain Injury Research in 2016 to support continued research and education regarding brain injuries and treatment of sports-related concussions. The Foundation funds research that it believes is the most promising in the area of sports-related concussions and related conditions. To help best evaluate which research programs to fund, some of the most renowned neurosurgeons in the country serve on a national medical advisory panel.  http://chucknollfoundation.org/
