She Tris Sprint Triathlon Concludes 2021 Season
October 3, 2021
Ages 5-78 cross the finish line
Charleston, SC (October 3, 2021). Over 200 women and girls from ages 5 to 78 participated in the final triathlon events for She Tris Sprint Triathlon on September 26, 2021. The triathlon events took place in the Carnes Crossroads neighborhood in Summerville. Title sponsor Crews Subaru, represented by Ken French, was on site cheering on the women and girls and many completed their first triathlon ever.
“We love ending our season with this event. I want our young participants to learn that Tri-Ing something new is fun and great for you! Our tag line for the girls’ event is ‘Be Brave. Be Strong. Be You.’ and we think it is a great message for young girls these days.” says Angi Klick, the founder and Champion of Confidence for She Tris.
Triathlon participants swim 250 meters, bike just under 8 miles, and then run 2.5 miles on the mostly shaded running path and the youth distances, which are much shorter, ary depending on the age of the girls.
Think you’re too old or too young to “tri”? Carol Shilepsky (78) wants you to rethink that. “I will hang around as long as I can finish before the course is shut down, not for my ego, but to remind the 50-year old she can do this for another 30 years,” Carol says. Carol’s first She Tris event was in 2018 and she has competed in all of this year’s in person triathlons.
The problem? She’s often the only one in her age group, and while that means she’s 1st place in her age group, what Carol really wants more than awards is for more women her age to join her! Registration for 2022 events will open later this year and there are several local area organizations to help prepare you if you’re thinking about doing your first triathlon! Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on those.
She Tris not only provides a great atmosphere for beginner and experienced athletes, they also give back to the community, donating a portion of their proceeds to non profits like Tri It For Life Charleston (a mentoring program for new triathletes), Tri It For Life Summerville, and local youth sports teams.
