July 22, 2021

Pre-sale registration window for Half Marathon, 5K and Kids Run opens Wednesday, July 21 and ends Monday, August 2; event supports the Santa Barbara Running Association’s youth running programs

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Santa Barbara Half Marathon is set for Sunday, November 7. The road race event supports the Santa Barbara Running Association’s (SBRA) youth running programs. Organized by Run Local®, the fall event welcomes runners and walkers from the local community and around the country to be inspired to reach their goals on a beautiful downtown, waterfront course.

Pre-sale for the Half Marathon (13.1 miles), 5K (3.1 miles) and Kids Run events opens Wednesday, July 21 and ends Monday, August 2. During this window, participants will enjoy the lowest price of the year as well as receive a race kit including a medal, long sleeve technical tee, Half Marathon and 5K training programs. The courses will be closed and fully supported with aid stations and various pace groups in the Half Marathon for those looking to achieve 1:30 to 3:00 hour finishing times.

“After COVID-19 restrictions impacted live events during the past year, it has been very rewarding and exciting to bring our Santa Barbara Half Marathon to life in support of the SBRA’s community youth running programs,” said Run Local’s Marketing Director and Santa Barbara resident David Monico. “In a town my family calls home, we look forward to welcoming runners and walkers from around the world to our beautiful coastal region.”

In the fall of 2020, Run Local hosted a free, virtual Santa Barbara Half Marathon drawing more than 3,500 runners from 40-plus countries and raising over $5,000 for the SBRA’s youth running programs.

“We are thrilled to work with Run Local and the Santa Barbara Half Marathon to help drive our mission through local youth running programs and initiatives.” Stated SBRA Board President, Lisa Dosch. “Your support will directly benefit many valuable local running-related programs and special youth initiatives. We’ve provided support for the Club West Junior High School Cross Country Program, Special Olympics of Santa Barbara County Track and Field athletes, maintenance of Elings Park running trails, and the Dos Pueblos, San Marco and Santa Barbara High School Cross Country programs. In addition, during the pandemic we have provided additional community support through our contributions to the Foodbank of Santa Barbara, Goleta Valley Historical Society – home of Lake Los Carneros trails, and Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara through a new shoes and running apparel program to name a few.”

The Santa Barbara Half Marathon is also a part of SBRA’s Grand Prix and the 5K is a Junior Grand Prix event.

About the SBRA

The Santa Barbara Running Association, former Athletic Association, has been promoting and supporting the Santa Barbara running community since 1948 with a vision to spread the joy of running. Sponsoring first-class races and special events, we bring the running community together by celebrating local athlete’s achievements and development from beginner level through elite. We encourage everyone to become involved with what running has to offer while giving back to, and enhancing, Santa Barbara as a whole.

With a mission to seek, engage and support the next generation of runners we are also partnering with local youth organizations to provide young runners with shoes and equipment they need to ensure that economic need was not a barrier to their ability to begin a lifelong love of running and healthy lifestyle.
