Rhode Races Partners with RI250 to Launch the “RI250 5K: The Renunciation Run” at 2026 Providence Rhode Races

WARREN, RI /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Rhode Races is proud to announce its official partnership with Rhode Island 250 Commission (RI250) as part of the statewide commemoration of the 250th anniversary of American independence. As part of this historic collaboration, the 5K race at the 2026 Providence Rhode Races will be rebranded as the RI250 5K: The Renunciation Run (RI250 5K), honoring Rhode Island’s pivotal role in American history.

The RI250 5K will take place on Sunday, May 3, 2026, during the Providence Rhode Races weekend, which also includes a Marathon, Half Marathon, and Kids Fun Run. The races will begin in East Providence and celebrate Rhode Island’s legacy as the first colony to formally renounce allegiance to Great Britain on May 4, 1776 – nearly two months before the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

“Our country’s semiquincentennial is an opportunity for all Rhode Islanders to get involved,” said Secretary of State Gregg M. Amore, chair of the Rhode Island 250 Commission (RI250). “Whether you’re a runner or a spectator, you can experience Rhode Island’s revolutionary spirit in the streets of Providence and East Providence as we mark Rhode Island Independence Day.”

The RI250 5K is designed to be accessible and celebratory, welcoming seasoned runners, first-time racers, families, and history enthusiasts alike. The accompanying Kids’ Fun Run underscores the event’s focus on intergenerational participation and community connection.
