SYDNEY (6 February 2020)The Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon presented by BUPA Dental will return to its world-famous course on Sunday, 17 May 2020 with registrations for the 29th running of Australia’s largest and most iconic half marathon open from today.

More than 12,000 athletes are expected at the prestigious race, which takes in some of Sydney’s best views along the spectacular 21.1km course, including; the Sydney Opera House, Botanic Gardens, Harbour Bridge, The Rocks, Pyrmont Peninsula and Hyde Park.

Runners of all fitness levels are invited to rise to the challenge and choose from the individual half marathon or share the experience with family and friends by entering as a relay team. Split in two, an 11km and a 10km leg, the relay provides the perfect opportunity for new runners finding their feet at distance running.

Race Director, Martin Mashford, said: “This inspiring event is the pinnacle half marathon in Australia, drawing participants from all over the world to experience a stunning, world-class course in Sydney. With our new partner, Bupa Dental, we encourage all runners to come together to test their limits in this spectacular location.”

Launching for the first time this year, four-time Olympian, World Championship and Commonwealth Games runner,Craig Mottram, has developed tailored six and 12 week training packages, available to purchase online.

Providing expert guidance and coaching for race participants, the tailored coaching, training and wellbeing plans aim to educate, empower and encourage all participants to achieve their event goals in 2020.

Commencing Monday, 9 March, participants will also receive free and exclusive access to weekly training runs led by JORG Running. Participants are invited to join the free running groups, departing from the Domain on Monday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.

For runners seeking a VIP experience, a limited number of Platinum Passes are available to purchase which includes a personalised race bib, exclusive access to the VIP area with refreshments, massage services and much more.

The Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon presented by BUPA Dental will again partner with a range of Australian charities through everydayhero with the goal to raise over $1 million for a wide range of worthy local, Australian and international causes. Participants can be a ‘hero’ for their favourite charity, make a one-off donation when completing their event entry or supporters can sponsor a friend or family member who is participating.
