Registration Opens for 2022 Escape from Alcatraz™ Triathlon on September 14

Iconic Race Returns to San Francisco on Sunday, June 5, 2022

SAN FRANCISCO (September 1, 2021) – IMG, a global leader in sports, events, media and fashion, today announced random drawing registration for the 2022 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon will officially open on Tuesday, September 14, 2021. More than 10,000 athletes enter the random drawing each year, with hopes of securing one of the 2,000 sought-after slots. The iconic race is set to take place on Sunday, June 5, 2022, in San Francisco.

Attracting Olympians, world champions, enthusiastic age groupers and challenged athletes, triathletes from all over the world will take over the streets and waters of San Francisco for the 2022 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. The infamous history of the island as an inescapable federal prison illuminates a mysterious challenge to athletes worldwide — the chance to “Escape from Alcatraz.”

Exploring the beauty of San Francisco, triathletes will embark on a grueling 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the shoreline of Marina Green, an 18-mile twisting bike ride through the Presidio, and an 8-mile trail run out to Baker Beach and back, while also encountering the infamous 200-plus-step Sand Ladder. Fans can experience the excitement of the race first-hand at the Marina Green, where the swim ends, and the athlete transition area and finish line are easily visible.

The first round of random drawing registration will open on Tuesday, September 14, at 6 a.m. (PST) and remain open through Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. (PST).
