Punch Gunk Announces Winners of Go Get It Grant

August 26, 2021

Nick Terry, Rob Scanlon, Non Worasilpchai, Austin Amon, and Sage Ebel receive funding for record-breaking kayaking excursion

LOS ANGELES – Punch Gunk, the award-winning performance therapeutics company shaking up the pain relief and workout recovery industry, has announced the winners of their inaugural Go Get It Grant. After receiving many compelling applications from athletes in a variety of sports and from all across the world, a panel of judges selected Nick Terry, Rob Scanlon, Non Worasilpchai, Austin Amon, and Sage Ebel to receive $2000 to support their upcoming kayaking excursion.

“All of our judges were incredibly impressed by this team’s application, which showcased Nick, Rob, Non, Austin, and Sage’s experience and excitement for their sport. It’s clear that they are ready to take on and conquer this challenge,” said Cameron McIntyre, co-founder of Punch Gunk. “Their daring spirit and dedication to testing their limits make them amazing partners in telling the story of Punch Gunk. Our goal is to help athletes and active people everywhere get through those minor physical setbacks so that they can achieve their goals.”

“We’re thrilled to work with Punch Gunk to make this trip a reality. The Go Get It Grant will help us cover the logistical costs of a practice expedition and an attempt at a complete one-day descent,” said Terry. “Our team still has some hard training ahead of us, but we’re ready for the challenge!”

Terry, Scanlon, Worasilpchai, Amon, and Ebel hail from Seattle, Washington where they train year-round on the most challenging and renowned sections of class V whitewater in the country, such as the Little White Salmon River, Robe Canyon of the Stillaguamish River, and Tumwater Canyon of the Wenatchee River. Each team member is a strong athlete and expert kayaker with years of experience. They also hold professional certifications in wilderness first aid and swift water rescue.

While the team had proposed a complete one-day kayak descent of the Bridge Creek of the Stehekin River – a feat previously only achieved over two or three days, or without navigating the largest rapids in Tumwater Canyon – to take place this summer, mother nature had other plans. After the extreme drought and historic wildfires in the northwest, the team will now attempt this descent in the summer of 2022 when conditions will be more favorable. Until then, they’ll be sharing more about their unique stories and their training with the Punch Gunk community.

Punch Gunk plans to continue offering Go Get It Grants in the future and will soon announce a request for applications in the fall. In this inaugural offering, athletes and teams were able to request financial assistance for upcoming athletic endeavors from a total fund of $2500, and could use the funds for any kind of expense, including permits, entry fees, equipment, or travel. Judges considered how athletes were preparing, the uniqueness and scale of their event or endeavor, and their ability to share and represent Punch Gunk’s brand values.

Punch Gunk was imagined, created, and is headquartered in Los Angeles, California. Well known in the mixed martial arts community, Punch Gunk’s pain-relieving lotion and recovery bath bombs help athletes of all sports and abilities fight the toughest pain using natural extracts with exceptional anti-inflammatory and pain relief properties. They are FDA compliant and certified as safe by both the United States and World Anti-Doping Agencies.
