Pittsburgh Natives, Fans, and Hometowners Moved Throughout the Month of November for This Year’s Virtual EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler, Creating Mini Pittsburgh Celebrations Across America

December 9, 2020

More than 2,700 participants, from two years to 78 years old, participated in this year’s virtual event

PITTSBURGH (December 9, 2020) – The 2020 Virtual EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler and Kids Virtual 10 presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods made it possible for people of all ages and locations around the country to celebrate everything Pittsburghers love about Pittsburgh while getting active. With mini finish line kits shipped out to all participants, each participant was able to create a celebration of their achievement. Participants represented Pittsburgh in 42 states and three countries during the month of November.

“This year’s event was special in so many ways. We were able to see children participate for the very first time and continued to see participants loving the Pittsburgh theme,” said Ellen Rossi, President, EQT Foundation. “We also saw 80 of our own employees participate virtually as we strive to promote corporate wellness, making this year’s event that much sweeter.”

P3R finished up its fall race season with the Virtual EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler which took place the entire month of November and brought the Pittsburgh themes to life with the first-of-its-kind Pittsburgh Celebration Box. From the Mister Rogers mile to the Pickles & Pierogies mile, each participant received a box full of Pittsburgh swag connected to the miles and a finish line kit to bring those race day feels to each participants’ door.

“The Pittsburgh Celebration Box was a brand new concept that we were able to bring to life through our partnerships this year,” said Caroline Fitzgerald, VP of Partnerships & Runner Experience at P3R. “We knew that the runners absolutely loved the Pittsburgh-themed miles in 2019 and to deliver that experience to their doors felt extra special this year.”

“The virtual event was so special and lifted my spirits,” said Virtual EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler participant Lisa Bonanni. “The box was generous and filled with thoughtful Burgh and running related gifts. It was a really nice way to bring the Burgh to me.”

Participants were encouraged to use the #PGH10Miler to cheer each other on throughout the month long event. There were also course maps presented by FedEx online to provide virtual support as participants planned their race day. Along with printable bibs, Instagram games, and more, the virtual event helped participants feel connected to each other.

For the first time ever, kids were able to get involved with the EQT Kids Virtual 10 Presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods, encouraging kids to complete 10 Pittsburgh-themed activities and move during the month of November. The 10 activities had accompanying videos highlighting the Pittsburgh theme and allowing kids to move along with an instructor.

“The EQT Kids Virtual 10 was a wonderful way for kids to not only stay active this fall no matter their circumstances, but also have lots of fun celebrating all the things that make Pittsburgh so special,” said Mark Rooks, VP of Community Marketing, DICK’S Sporting Goods. “Through our Sports Matter initiative, we aim to support programs in local communities to inspire kids to play and move more so it was great to see so many children participate.”

The event was the third and final virtual event in the 2020 #RUNwithP3R Challenge alongside the Virtual 2020 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon event and the Virtual Fleet Feet Liberty Mile. More than 400 runners earned their extra medal for completing all three events in 2020.
